Hah, it actually has a bit of bass there too :D

I wonder if it's actually being caused by the strong magnetic fields resonating the actual coilform, seeing as it is wrapped in copper wire. Cool shiz :D

These are pretty freaking sweet, Fiddy. Just had to drop by and tell you. I'm curious what topology you're using, long runtimes and small form factors are usually indicative of Class-E operation and not just standard SSTC antenna feedback.

Love how the bulbs just keep glowing even when you aren't touching them. All tesla coils will light bulbs at a distance, however only the really high frequency ones will keep them lit just sitting on a table :D

Any updates? Been lurking, wanting a kit for sure. I made this account just because of this thread. Always wanted a tesla coil, now that kits for DRSSTC's and plasma speaker drivers are becoming more available I REALLY want one.

I found this via the onetesla forum. I can see myself with collection of TCs in the coming years. High voltage and wireless power and Tesla's writings are all fascinating me currently.

Looking forward to updates and ordering a kit.

PS where did you get that beautiful aluminum toroid in one of your previous posts? The one with the cone-shaped breakout on top?

Hey man,

Ive run into problems in my design that im trying to figure out, theres a unwanted "humm" in the arc and the main switching transistor is getting too hott :(
Im trying to fix it, but im a one man band and i work 12 hour shifts so theres not much time for me to figure stuff out.

Did you order the Onetesla kit?

That toroid and secondary was from RMCybernetics.com here: Tesla Coil Secondary

I machine the cone like spike up myself.

It looks like you're using a 4046 PLL for the driver, a buzz is characteristic of incorrect phase adjustment. If you've weeded out external sources of hum and DC bus ripple then start looking at your PLL. Last time I tried this topology I didn't have a scope so I gave up. It can turn out great when you nail it though!

I had come to that conclusion, there's 2x 4700uF caps in parallel on the bridge level side which which would easily filter out any ripple, i even doubled that and put 4x caps in and it had no effect, im thinking that the isolation of the PCB traces might not be big enough around the PLL chip?
