I found a bunch of them at home. 100v at 75A continuous?!! Wow, the hell with solid state relays.

I'm using one for a flyback and it's drawing 50A at 14v w/o a heatsink. Cool to the touch.

They do have a very nice and low RDS(on), indeed very nice MOSFETS for LOPT driving.

Though 14V@50A? What topology are you using? How are you measuring current?

If, you are using a single switch topology driven by a 555, I am going to have to say "pics an video or it didn't happen...." :na:


700W is a lot of juice even just for the flyback? Unless you really did your homework and retuned the ZVS for optimum switching (original schematic can be greatly improved by observing gate waveforms), I find 700W on a single switch? with no heatsink a hard sell.

I was experimenting with Class-E sstc topologies and even with perfect (close-to) class-e switching (ie lowest switching loses), I was creating a good deal of heat at ~400W Pin. This was with a large heatsink and a super247 package mosfet.


But...those are indeed some very decent mosfets...too bad they are TO-220 though the package tens to over-cook even when bolted to a decent heatsink due to poor thermal transfer characteristics, think 30-40W of thermal dissipation is ~max. I tend to stay at TO-247 and above.

Oh man this is no ordinary flyback.

It can take 12v and turn it into 150,000. The original circuit was just a 555 controlling the MOSFET, but the EMP kept frying the 555, [this thing makes your arm hair stand up when it fires]. SO, now the circuit is a 555 controlling an isolating relay controlling the MOSFET... but it works.

Not really. They're about 50ms. At max rep rate there is a 2ms break in between them. Any faster and the huge transformer can't build up a field worth collapsing.

What is the intended application, tazering elephants? ;)

So is mine. Try hooking it up to a car battery via a relay. When you break the circuit, you'll get a huge spark. Use a relay because the quicker the break, the larger the spark. Of course you could use a mosfet too, but relays are harder to break.

Also, PUT IT UNDER OIL! The insulation wont stand up to the voltage in air. Cooking oil works great. Just make sure you squeeze all the bubbles out of the windings.

Good to see some HV enthusiasts on the forum.

They're decent mosfets. Though they are TO-220.

If you need some more current handling let me know. I can get you some IRFP064Ns for cheap. (Almost half the price of the HUFs)

Well, idk what to do with this transformer instead of shocking the hell out of things. Any ideas?

What current and where did you get it? I happen to be looking for a 70-100kV x-ray tube transformer that can do like 50-100mA.

Well, unballasted i can get quite a lot of power out of it (dims the lights in the hose to 75%)

It's not for sale though. I'm rebuilding my x-ray machine.
 
BE extremely careful around the X-ray machine and that 120Kv supply.
They are lethal!

At the voltage you are using you will be producing some hard X-rays.
You have a Ion chamber detector handy?

Oh, it's in a 4mm thick lead box. It can sheild up to 200kVp. I will mainly be taking pictures of flowers etc, so i'll never need to take it up to 120kVp.

Besides, my tube can only handle 75kVp.
