For that money you should look into good Toshiba and Dell XPS laptops.

I have been looking for a good laptop too. There are so many freaken' choices.
What about GateWay? I haven't heard a whole lot from them in a few years.

They seem to have pretty good specs for the price, not to mention looks, like this one:
Gateway NV7802U Notebook PC - Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 2.2GHz, 4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, 17.3” LED, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, NightSky Black at TigerDirect.com
Gateway Official Site: Computers - Notebooks - NV Series Laptops

Only thing I'm not sure about is the integrated GPU.

The Gateway FX series for $1000 has a kickass gaming performance that just can't be beat for the price. I know its a bit more than what you're looking to spend but that thing is a friggin monster for the price. Comparable to higher end gaming laptops.

It honestly depends on what you're looking for in a laptop. If you are a gamer you'll want one with a discrete GPU. If you dont play many 3D games then you'll be able to allocate more of your budget to other features(more ram, HD space, ect). Tell me what you want in a laptop and your budget, and I can help you narrow down some choices.

I've got a DELL XPS M1530, that I picked up here on the Forum for only $700.00. What a steal !!!!! For the options it has, according to a DELL DEALER, I got a lap-top that is worth $1,500.00 + for under 1/2 the price. Look for a used or re-furbished unit & you'll get more bang for your buck. You just have to shop CAREFULLY so you don't buy someone else's problem child.................rob

That's what I ended up doing. Saved me roughly 25% percent, not counting tax. Just do your research before you buy and you'll be fine.
