There is no reason at all to favor nVidia over ATI, and ATI cards are cheaper. So yeah.

you guys are makin me feel bad...
im still on a 8800 GTS
:scowl:

A 8800 GTS is faster than a 9500 GT

@Green
The 295 GTX is $460-480, the 5870 is $380. (on newegg)

@niko
The latest betas are out for ati and nivida, both sides see about an equal performance boost so not much changes.

The 5850 X2 should beat a 295 outright for the same price. Expect the 4 GB (2 per gpu) 5870 X2 to be as high as $600-650 initially, 2 GB version will probably be $50-75 cheaper.

I'd personally go with the 4GB version, if you're spending that much money you should at least be able to max the textures and view distance in GTA IV.

Mmm since I'm going to college I just want a nice 40nm GPU. Anyone delt with SSD's here? I'm thinking of buying intels gen 2 MLC 160gb or OCZ's vertex turbo once she gets a new lappy

Honestly I don't think they're ready yet. With all the wear leveling problems and general flaky-ness of SSDs, you'd probably be better off saving some money and buying two nice HDDs in RAID0 for a speed boost.

GTA IV is BADLY programmed, they ported it to PC just for money and did a VERY bad job. It doesn't matter how good your card is, if the engine sucks (such as the cry engine from crytek), you won't be able to see any important boosts.

Doesn't matter how good your card is? Not sure why you'd say that. In the case of gta a card with over 1.5 GBs of memory does indeed make a dramatic difference in the view distance... and I haven't had an issue with performance running Crysis at 1080p since my last card upgrade.

Yeah, if you run Crysis at low settings in 1024x768 everything's gonna be just great. Now, try running it in High @ 1680x1050. Getting 60fps? Don't think so. I can't play any FPS without 55fps or more.

Nahhh with Windows 7 SSD's should wear a lot less and perform better. Sounds nice.

Btw who said Nvidia makes money? They lost a few hundred million last quarter didn't they, and ATI made 1 million DOLLARS lol.
