As far as I know...the screen still works. I tore the thing apart to see why it's not working anymore.....Lets just say that I found 2 capacitors that literally blew up and a couple other chips that fried.

The Mobo is dead....The screen, as far as I know is fine. That's why I am selling it.

Any chance you'll ship out of US to a LPF member, if I take responsibility for loss/damage, or would you prefer to let the listing run as-is? I have a couple of friends with broken iPhone 3G screen and glass respectively.

If you win the auction and you make sure to let me know that it is you, I would be willing to ship it out of the usa for you. :) I don't think that I would still be able to ship it with UPS though for that price though. Just be warned that I have no idea if it still works and that I am selling it AS IS. Like I said on the listing...it looks to be in decent condition, but I have no way of making sure that it still works.

I just looked at this thread for the first time ever and it shows that it has a 2/5 rating? So I decided to bump it up and it says I've already voted. Is this a glitch on the forum or did I accidentally give it a rating of 2? When you rate a topic does it give you a confirmation? And why can't you change the rating (much like changing a rating on youtube)

Wow, i hate getting into debates like this one late. But before i start: I have a mac for iPhone apps, a Windows computer for gaming, and a Linux(ubuntu) computer for everything else(even some gaming, like world of goo, sometimes EVE).

I do whatever i can to stay away from my mac and windows computers. If i want to play big, commercial games that arent supported in WINE, then i have to use windows, but it's not that bad, because i rarely even see Windows, i just see the game. I stay away from the mac because i think that it's ugly and hard to use, but that's personal opinion. Really, why is it so hard to have multiple windows open at a time and switch between them, i either hit f9, or have to rearrange them to bring them up, i don't want to have to minimize every other window just to get to the one i want.

Quite frankly, i like my hue very much, you mac users can do whatever you want with your saturation and value, but my hue is very important to me.

Go on youtube and search for anything along the lines of ubuntu, compiz, beryl, or linuz, but add in some words like aero or special effects. I think my computer had probably a bajillion more effects than mac or win7 (or vista for that matter) I would post a link to one that's good, but I'm using the school internet here, and youtube is blocked.

Linux runs faster than anything else, in general. Don't argue with me on that, just accept it and realize that over 90% of the worlds top 500 supercomputers use Linux, and there's a reason for that.

Also, most versions of Linux are free, free as in beer and free as in freedom. And, as i have said on another thread, with regards to ubuntu in particular, who would *not* choose to use an os funded by a south-african by childhood, british by inheritance, founder of thawte(google it), billionaire, civilian, astronaut?

Edit: For some reason, i was reminded of the books 'The Handmaids Tale' and '1984' where our society, which likes 'freedom to' do stuff, are replaced by a totalitarian society where people are supposedly given 'freedom from' stuff like rape, murder, and myriad other things, so its your choice, 'freedom from' or 'freedom to'?

Edit2: Also, people like me aren't fanboys, or fangirls, we're zealots, because we arent all for a specific company, or money, or a celebrity. We are for freedom, awesomeness, and the greater good. For another book, try Cory Doctorow's 'Little Brother', even though he's not the best writer, he's got ideas.

Just thought I would add,

I have my custom build computer, with pretty high specs and then two hard drives, one with Mac installed and one with windows 7.

I'm on mac now and generally prefer it for general web browsing, graphics etc just because it looks cool and has a nice easy to use interface. I havn't swapped to windows since I installed mac around 2 months ago, but I have some work and need to use publisher so I'll be going back over soon.

It's nice not dual booting beause of all the compatibility issues, swapping the hardrives is as easy as changing two sata cables, then changing the HD config in the bios :)

Originally I tried to install mac and couldn't get it too work with my hardware, but since then more drivers has been released along with a tutorial I found which pretty much matched my specs, I also installed it on my laptop although it is slow.

The reason why supper computers use various form of proprietary versions of Linux, has nothing to do with the OS's perfromance. It has to do with the fact that Linux is an open sorce code that can be modified, leagally, to your own liking.

Windows and Mac, simply do have the time to waste on trying to make an OS that can utilize 224,256 Opteron processor cores....LOL. It's not realistic to them because only a select few ammount of people would be interested in purchasing the product. Basicly, Windows and Mac are in it for the money.

Personally...I Have both Ubuntu and Windows 7. Lets just say...I don't remember the last time I used Ubuntu. Until a linux OS comes around that can suite "ALL" of my needs, I see no point in wasting my time with it.

Effects are pointless and a waste of time as well....All they do is use up your computer's resorces.

So much for the objective debate part, eh? 4 posts and re-igniting a flame war?

Back to the topic - most supercomputers use Linux because it is open source, not because it is faster. You need to modify the kernel to make it run appropriately by distributing load across several thousand CPU's. Your argument is a strawman.

"My hue is important to me." WTF does that mean? Color calibration is common on OS X and Windows. Linux is a big hit or miss. There is a reason why designers generally skew towards OSX however and that has to do with the PS rendering engine built in to the core of the OS as much as it does with the culture.

You were on to something - use the right tool for the right job but I think you lost track of that as you went from objective post to rant. :undecided:
First off, i don't get what it is with people(not just you, it's everyone) and post count, is that the only way to find out anything about someone, is it the only measure of intelligence in this world, is it more important than education?
Just because someone is new to a forum doesn't mean that they are retarded.
Sorry about that(the 'dont argue with me' part', i meant to make it more of a cocky, experienced suggestion, but meh.
Anyway: [Phoronix] Can Ubuntu 9.10 Outperform Mac OS X 10.6?
It was a close call, but ubuntu won by a bit, even though Mac is optimized for very specific hardware.

Also, you thought i was talking about color calibration?
/doublefacepalm

In case you hadn't noticed, every single mac is now silver, gray, or white(i.e. with no hue), or a combination of the above, and last i checked(yesterday), you aren't allowed to add hue to the UI.

Edit: b/c iksor posted while i was writing, rather than a double post:

What do you need that Linux doesn't support, other than possible gaming?

And, just in case you're curious, Ubuntu is so awesome, you can turn the effects off! =O
But for the people who want things pretty......

It's not that linux can support something, it's just getting to a point where it will.

Windows has the nice balance of being able to customize things, along with ease of use. I like mac and use but it is very simplified, and probably oversimplified.

I can't find any justifiable reason to use linux, it's just plain making life difficult for your self for the cool factor of being to say:

"I can type code and open my web browser, mwuaha."

And it's nothing to do with speed, because to be honest I notice no speed increase from windows xp, windows 7, windows vista, mac or linux.

And if you really are worried about that little fraction of speed you might loose, you shouldn't be using a computer :p

The speed thing wasn't that important, but when i have a dozen things on at the same time, it's noticable, but small enough to only warrant a sentence or two in my argument.

I've been using windows since i was 4(it's my dad's fault, he forced me to play games!) and i've been using Ubuntu and mac for about 5 years now. I've found that ubuntu is easier to use, but ease of use is an opinion. I know some people who actually do the below because they think it's easier.

I *could* open firefox or chrome by hitting alt+f2 and some code, but i much prefer just clicking the little icon at the top of the screen.

@abadcaffeinetrip
You're one to talk! Why should i listen to what a coffee cup has to say?!
But seriously, l2read, What if someone posted a picture and said: "Here is me, at the top of Mount Olympus" would you ask how the got internet access up there? No. That picture is old, and my sig doesn't mention what age i'm now. Actually, now that i think about it, i'm not even sure if i was 12 or 14, 13 was just a guess. Also, if i was that age now, it probably would just say "My avatar = me, with the......" So i specified my age, in a failed attempt to clarify it.

Where do I start.....LOL...
1.) Don't take me as some idiot that doesn't know what they are talking about. LOL :)
2.) I am more than aware of the ability to turn the effects off.
3.) I am more than aware of the abilities of Ubuntu, in general
4.) Gaming capabilities are a big factor for me
5.) Lack of good drivers for Ubuntu....(Especially for Graphics)
6.) False sense of security with Ubuntu
7.) Tying to install anything that isn't in it's normal application installer, is a huge pain.
8.) Trying to get software to work, is a pain
9.) Windows have better software available for it

Now, I must admit that Linux OS's have improved greatly in the past 3 to 5 years. They are much more user friendly than what they used to be, however, linux can't mach the abillity of windows or Mac....and until it does, I don't see a point in using it.

You took the words right out of my mouth.:) +1

@ Everyone
What if we made this about cars? Would people still defend their car as much? For example, I think my S40 is the best mid-sized sedan in its class. Of course, there are huge varieties of cars so no one says "the best car ever made." People say the "bast car in its class." Why is it different with computers? Why is there one "best" computer. I don't get that mentality.

Open a thread for cars.....I will argue until I am blue in my face.:) LOL

I also agree with the points above, and I will also be more than happy to argue about cars :D

Anyone care to make the augment that XXX is the best car in the world for every person no matter how they intend to use it? :-D

I can see where your analogy can play a role in this argument, but it is a slightly different matter.

When you only have a choice of three operating systems, you tend to only stick to one and therefor also become defensive when one of the certain operating systems base there whole advertisement campaigns on something the other operating system can't do :)

I have nothing against either of them, but if there were several hundreds of operating systems to choose from, you would have less large groups of people arguing and there for it becomes more of a personal opinion as it would be an argument between two or three people, but with the operating system war and console war there are so few choices and such a large group of users arguments are bound to break out.

i'll just post a screenie of something ironic about my previous arguments, but like I said all operating systems have their uses, although linux marginally less then windows and mac :p

I would have to say that the best way to do the comparison is.....
Windows=Republican
Mac=Democrat
Linux=Green Party

Back to the car thing.....Geely owns Volvo now? Interesting.
In all honesty, I am a foreign car guy. What can I say? :)

1-3.)You seem pretty educated in what you're talking about, no no threat there.
4.)I know a ton of people who play linux games because they are fun and addicting, not because they are flashy and intense and have storylines, and look good, etc. I personally like both.
5.)I've talked to quite a few people who have said that but couldn't think of anything that they've ever had driver issues with, what about you?
6.)How?
7.)It depends on the software provider, if they give you a .deb, then it's:
a)double click on .deb
b)click install and type password
c)????
d)Profit!!!!
But, if they don't, then it can be.
8.)Pretty much same thing as above, but when this happens, google is your bestest friend, that is, if you can call a god your friend..........
9.)Such as? Personally, i like GIMP and OOO more than photoshop and msoffice, but that's me.
10.)I just realized that we're talking about mac, windows, linux, ubuntu, and cars in a thread that is about 2 companies.........
11.)
Mac=Democrat
Last I checked, democrats like freedom.......

Edit: And i'm fairly sure that they(not mentioning my preference) prefer freedom to, whereas apple wants you to have freedom from. Also, i don't use internal combustion engines, i use my good old bike.
