i really want to make a laser scanner thing but im electronically retarded...give me a baseball, car engine, fashion problem i can solve...but electronics...not my thing...but lasers seem soo cool to build i wanna try it. i dont know what dioeds or capcitors or heatsinks are...so if someone could spend some one on one time teaching me these things maybe i could return the favor in some way.

to the Forum...

We are all here to learn... so you will need to do a bit of research by
reading the Threads/posts here on the Forum...

If you don't want to build something yourself then there are a few other
options... all of which are not free..

Read the Buy/Sell/Trade sections or contact O-Like or Rayfoss for Laser
products...

BTW... before trying to build a Scanner.... you would be wise to start
by building a working Laser...:yh:

Building a laser projector is a great goal, and all the information you need to get an idea of how they work is in the laser show section. Look at the sticky thread and any threads talking about "new to scanners", "first scanner" or things along that line.. Good luck!

Did you finger it out Noob or are you still trying to figure out which wire is positive?

There are different levels of "scanner"

If you want to learn "step by step" there are some that are easier to sort out at first and work your way forward.

Don't just expect to draw animations with a crude home brew device, BUT building one of THOSE first is an excellent way to get the basic theory figured out.

Start out by getting an el cheapo laser pointer or module... They are everywhere.

Start simple, glue a small mirror to a woofer (speaker) at an odd angle, then point your laser at it while heavy drums pound. If the mirror does not fall off, you will have some nifty patterns on the wall.

Then try CEMENTING (use something really good like JB weld) (superglue sucks!!) a small mirror to the end of a slower moving motor shaft.

Attach a mirror to the front wheel of a cheap RC car, put it up on blocks, aim the laser into the mirror and play with the remote.

Then start looking on ebay for moving coil scanners, attach one to a stereo and point your laser into it.

In time your knowledge will evolve, and soon you will project Thor tossing lightning bolts out of the clouds.....

Your best bet would be to put together a torch-style build, and doing so learn about current, voltage, soldering, and have some fun along the way. When you feel that you are more confident with electronics and lasers, including safety, I would suggest building a spirograph - similar to a scanner, but outputs a small set of patterns such as spirals, then once you are happy with this, try following one of the guides in the Scanners section, which will help you masses. Make sure you have a large budget though, scanners certainly aren't cheap!

Dont waste your time, this is one of Dark's (Tylers) spy accounts. He has tons of these for whatever mental reason.

I used to be a watchdog mod on a few forums, and use many different formulations. Then I add them up, and if they total 75%+ its the member. If I had access to IPs it would even be higher. I know some people think its BS, but if any of the older members recall I picked out Ian 5 out of 6 times in a forum that has a membership in the thousands. No matter what you think, that's a huge feat without IPs. Just recently I picked out another of Tyler's accounts in under an hour after he joined.

This crap is second nature with me. Ive been doing some reading on the web about Tyler and I really feed bad for him. He has some major issues that go way beyond how he acted here. He really has no social skills, and is a pathological liar. Not saying that to be mean, he really is.

I figured he was mental as well. Dave and I talked about it when he sold those 50 so called "overspected" modules when it was proven to be an impossibility. He wants to come back thats for sure. But he is who he is. If it is something he can't change on his own then I feel bad too but it got him into a lot of trouble.

That is impressive without IP access.

Don't take me wrong, I have the nickname "Grissom" around the house, I got booted from a forum once after 4200+ posts because I ferreted out the drunken liar moderator who forgot things he posted just days after posting it.

I have 2 phantom accounts on the forum I own, One of them all the members know about, I use it as a test account.

The other no one has figured out.... I chose the words very carefully to avoid detection. (That is just there to spark conversations when the forum gets quiet)

Each person has a unique use of vocabulary and in time, It is easy to figure out if someone is playing games.
