lol, I love my line arrays because there really is no "sweet spot", it's just good all over  ;D

As for the tweeters, they were a cheap soft dome tweeter that was originally for Ford (?) vehicles that Parts Express sold a few years back in their buyouts section for $0.69 each!  The 4" speakers, affectionally known as NSBs (No Specified Brand, I believe), I think were actually made by Pioneer, but they only cost me $0.50 each!

I cross them around 3.5 to 4.0khz.  The 4" speakers are actually full-range, but their response starts to fall off some around 5khz and I think the tweeters start to drop off on their low end around 3khz or so, so I used that point.  My setup isn't advanced enough for me to fully test and design everything perfectly, but it works pretty well, I think, so I see no reason to "improve" it.

Nice mine are Dayton 5/8" tweeters, about 4 bucks each. I actually did a bunch of research on crossover design spreadsheets and such, bought a measurement microphone ($50 beheringer) and they are pretty flat. You would not believe what people can do with Microsoft excel these days. Mine have no sweet spot but you have to in the plane of the tweeters or you can hear the difference. Sitting down with them at ear hight it awesome.

That's why I wanted mine "floor-to-ceiling", so it wouldn't matter if you were sitting or standing, you'd be directly in-line with the speakers :D Buying the really cheap speakers allowed me to do that... and though they may be really cheap, I think because of the amount of them, none are driven very hard so distortion is really low even at loud volumes (and they DO get loud!).

Haha, when most people see them, they usually realize about an hour after watching a movie or something, that they are actually speakers.... they just look at me and say "are the sides of the TV stand speakers??" I'm like "yeah, that's what all those round things are" ;D

For that price, dude, i'd have bought them too, even if i just wanted to buy them and leave them lying all around the floor. too cheap!!

does the brand really matter when you have 2000000 speakers you can choose to set in any band ;D?

Yea, I will do that "next time" interestingly, I have a real knowledgeable DIY audio buddy and I get the same thing form my Dayton 5/8 tweeters, running 8 of them and they run so low powerwise when it is all divided up that the distortion is very low. Better than a couple 100 dollar tweeters too. I got another project brewing I'll email you about using these.

rkstr thats crazy hows the sound profiling on it what that many drivers you gotta tune it well for that to work really.... and is the case tuned?

i (by proxy my fatha when he pops his ears/clogs) has a homebuilt watercooled 1.9kw tube amp (12 tubes) 4 for each large speaker
(front stereo / subwoofer) and 1 for each small speaker

i have 4 studio speakers that i got from a old studio (duh) that had a yardsale as such

2 "20 woofers with cases made from slate that have tuned "folded organ" backpipes and filled with concrete all tuned to work on multiples of 42-84hz

there about 600 kilos each of speaker...

my dad made it all including the amp its all at his atm because my flat.. well do YOU wanna carry 2 600kilo speakers up a flight of stairs...

i can have it all when he gets deaf with old age / loud music aparrantly

i love the warmer softer sound that tube amps give over transistor amps

but im stuck with 2 of the studio speakers as computer speakers and a transistor amp plugged into my computer output (yay for digital equalisation to compensate)

Sound profiling?  Sounds good! lol.  I'm not enough of an audiophile to be proficient in distinguishing audio dynamics.  They're open back, so no tuning required.... that would have been too much of a task; it was enough just mounting all those speakers and wiring them!  I'm sure they're not nearly ideal or flat, but I like how they sound, so that's all that matters, right?  ;D

But, jebus!  600kg speakers?!?  ~2kW TUBE amp?!?  That's crazy, lol!  I bet that tube amp keeps the room warm!  And, do you have to reinforce the floor for those speakers?

lol @ the concert a few days ago, we had 12kW of BASS in a tiny hall, and about 6kW of mids/highs. Abit uneven, but TBH I like bass better than highs ;D

2:1 bass to mid/high power doesn't sound unreasonable... comparatively, I have only about 600WRMS available to my mains but 1800WRMS for my sub, which is 3:1.  But, moreso its so that there is plenty of headroom for the sub amp to avoid clipping with the power hungry bass.  You don't need nearly as much power to the highs for comparatively high volumes as you do with bass.

But, more importantly, how many cabs did you have running off that power?  You can have all the power you want, but unless you have the speakers to convert that to sound, its useless  ;)

We had 4 subs, rated for 3200W each. We werent pushing them hard all the time, but we did clip a small amount during the tests!

Standing infront of those things gives you a massage to the beat of a song LOL

Lemme grab a link to info of them real quick, brb with edit.

4 of these.... http://www2.jblpro.com/catalog/general/Product.aspx?PId=118&MId=3

and 2 of these.... http://www2.jblpro.com/catalog/general/Product.aspx?PId=119&MId=3

Running off I think 4 Crown xTi4000's for the subs, and 2 for the mids/high's
