I've driven past many power poles that have these little things (Made from ceramic by the looks of them) that look like some kind of ceramic capacitor. I haven't been able to find a pic of them on the internet, as I don't know what they are (and our power lines are underground in my suburb), but someone that knows or has worked up a power pole or in design should know what they are or could be?

Any idea's?

Cheers :)

I think you are talking about "Insulators" as far as I know.. there are
no capacitors on power poles as far as I know...

Nah, I know what the insulators are, these are not. I know there can be caps on power lines for power factor correction, but these things are smaller than all the ones i've seen.

Do you mean the little 'circular parabolloid' (it sucks when you learn algebra in spanish) you find on the top of the poles? (3 or 4 of them one after another?).

I think what you're referring to are "insulators", which I'm guessing isn't what Things is looking for...

Here's a pic of insulators:

I think the member here named DTMF has experience with telephone poles, maybe they'd know.

No, they aren't insulators, they are smooth looking (Non of those water ring things)

I can try get a pic next time i'm out, but we have underground power lines in my suburb, so I don't come by them alot

They look like fat, short, cylinders with a wire connected to the top somehow, and hang off the crossbars.

If it was a pole pig, the power company sure has made some pretty HUGE improvements to their transformer design :p

These things are much smaller than pole pigs.

And yeah, I guess it's on hold till I go out of the house next :p

I think I know what it is... It is a power disconnect used when they work on Pole
transformers...or replace them...
