How exactly do people do these so quickly?? Is there a specific way? Or, do you have to be able to look at it and know exactly what moves you have to make?

I see people doing these blindfolded, so I just assumed that there's a "magical" way to turn these things to solve them, lol!

There are formulas for creating layers and swapping colours to get the combination you want. Blindfolded cubers, believe it or not, look over the cube before blindfolding themselves and actually memorise the method, then do it while blindfolded. It requires a stunning amount of brainpower.

They look at the cube and solve it with the picture in their brain.

Bring this thread back from the dead. I'm a cuber. Average 74 seconds on stock, unlubed 3x3x3. 4x4x4 is only around 15 minutes, but that's because my 4x4x4 has a tendency to fall apart so I have to be careful. Haven't timed myself on a 5x5x5, but it was super easy compared to the 4x4x4. Have my 7x7x7 on the way for Christmas. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Personally, I prefer the Petrus method with a couple of my own algorithms mixed in that are more comfortable for me.

I think my first one I was about 12.
I spent about 20 minutes with it before I had it dismantled into pieces then snapped back together. ;D

Not so. The world record for a single solve is much MUCH faster, 7.12s. His 12.85 wouldn't even break top 150 for single solves. And the world record for a 5 cube average is in the high 11s. If 12.85 is his personal best, then he is a world class competition speedcuber. If his average is 12.85, then I would expect a couple of titles under his belt.

I can get the 3x3x3 in a minute (average). I just got a 4x4x4 for Christmas and I'm having a hard time with it. I can get all the middles and middle-sides so that it looks like a normal cube. However the last layer always gives me trouble because of the parity's. Here's the video's that I used to learn how to solve it (well, almost):

His tutorials on the 3x3x3 rubiks cube are amazing!

I pulled all of the little colored stickers off of one when they first came out. Does that count? [smiley=engel017.gif]

Peace,
