How about firewalls?

ZoneAlarm is really the only way to go if you're worried about it
And yes Norton 2009 is a big improvement in system resources as its barely noticeable on my 2004 dell laptop and only does it really processing power when your away from it or doing stuff that docent require any power.... I was amazed at the difference coming from 05 on the same computer.

I have heard good things about NOD32 but it remindes me of command and conquer : )

I agree ZoneAlarm is the only decent firewall software I have come across that does its job, and I would know, I run a web server and get about 50 hits per day, with no problems with security or threats!

What I dont like about ZoneAlarm (they might have fixed it, its been awhile since I used it) is that it links somehow to every file on your HD. And if you try to uninstall it, it creates havoc with your file system. You cant completely clear it off you machine either.

True! I had this problem a while ago, but I fixed it some how, I followed a youtube video and it works like magic now! I have never had probs with it as far as that! But I remember it was a real easy fix and I thought to my self "DUH!!" sorry couldn't be of much more help.

It's better if we open poll, everybody has your opinion :D
I use NOD32 for Win7 X64 and works fine.
My computer never got infected.

I'm personally using paid version of AVG on windows 7, seems to be working 100% no bugs, it doesn't slow my computer down and it picks up most virus's from files before I even download them :d

A test was done recently with all virus scanners including free and the ones that cost money. The test was to see which one was able to pick up and cure the most viruses.....lets just say that Avira got second place with picking up 98.7%. Believe it or not, but Norton Anti-virus got first place.

However, you have to pay to get Norton...and Avira is Free and Has been proven to be the best at detecting viruses out of all of the free virus scanners.
Here is a link for where you can download it.

FYI: AVG got 8 place. AVAST didn't even place in the top 10!!![/size]
2009 anti-virus software detection placement (iNDEPENDENT TEST)

1.) Norton Internet Security 2009
2.) Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition
3.) McAfee VirusScan Plus
4.) Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal
5.) Panda Antivirus Pro 2009
6.) BitDefender Antivirus Plus
7.) Eset Nod32
8.) AVG Anti-Malware
9.) G Data AntiVirusKit (AVK)
10.) F-PROT Antivirus

As I already said, Avira is on the top now, and considering it's free, the decision is clear.

Keep in mind that the paying version of Avira ONLY removes the adds (and I'm getting one every 6 hours or even more, so they are no way annoying), improves the updates downloading speed and adds spam filters and such, but the important thing:

The antivirus itself is THE SAME!

I had never used a free antivirus and I have to say I'm enjoying avira more than any other, and I have to admint I was a big Kaspersky / NOD32 fan.

Albert

Avira only displays adds when you have it update the virus data base. If you want adds less often...have it update less often. It's that simple....or you could buy the full version, which I highly recomend. :)

NOD32 is by far one of the best anti-virus you will ever get. Have it running on my system atm. It's compatible with the beta of Win7 but haven't heard anything about compatibility with the actual Win7 and there is nothing on their site about it.

Also, Norton isn't as bad as everyone thinks it is...you just have to have it running on the right settings.
Agreed, ESET win.
