Why is it that every time I say ********* it gets replaced with *'s? (S.A.G.H.E.T.T.I.)

Just noticed this while reading the laser show section... What's up with it?

Picture of the word that I'm trying to say(in case the above gets filtered out):

Is it only me, or is this happening to others?

Pictures/Links with "Spaghett" in the title wont work either now.

Projectors aren't really my thing, but from what I gather it has something to do with the author of ********* being mean and discontinuing it, and then other people getting mad and throwing up free versions of it on the interwebs.

Being mean? You mean charging for transfering licenses from one computer to another and giving people a hard time about it?

You should do some reading ^^. The whole thing is very amusing.

Yeah, I'd qualify that as being mean. :D

The problem with the Spaghet(t)i software was the "one
computer only" use protection system Gary used at the
beginning.

This caused him to need to supply a license number for
the software to be used on multiple computers by the same
owner since the license numbers could not be transferred
between computers. That was a time consuming but cheap
security solution.

Then he got pi$$ed off because people were complaining
about needing different licenses by the same owner and
challenged anyone to break his copy security.

In the mean time he decided to go with an encrypted USB
Dongle that he should have (IMO) started out with. With the
Dongle you could now install the software on any computer
but only one copy (using the Dongle) can be used at a time
which is fair.

By then the original Security Challenge was met and the
Software security was cracked...

Yeah, I'm just wondering why it was all filter out of the posts/titles in every thread on LPF...

I think it was an effort to stop people posting about the software. IIRC Gary is done with it, so maybe he requested that the title be blocked all together. After all, he dared someone to crack his software, and someone did. So its kind of embarrassing. It will also stop search engine hits for this forum.

He could have also threatened a lawsuit. Which would make sense why Avery blocked the name.

Or both.

Either way I always thought Gary was an A-Hole, and so did a lot of other people. He deserved what he got.
