Why does this site not use tapatalk? Because of my schedule I do a lot my browsing and posting from my phone. It would be much easier for people like me to get this done if this site were more friendly to a third party app that helped with browsing.... I think it is free for the forum to have this ability it is just a matter of setting it up. Anyways not complaining just wondering.

I'm 99% certain this issue has come up before, and security (or lack thereof) is exactly why it's not on this forum.

Edit... Make that 100% certain. Just do a quick search and you'll see.

I apologize for the bump, but I wouldn't consider installing Tapatalk a great security risk. Xda Developers use it (one of the most active forums in the world). I don't think a hobby site such as LPF would be a target for hackers.

A lot of members would appreciate the install :) Please consider how long it's been out in production environments.

Its not going to happen. People need to stop askibg about it. In todays world we don't need crapatalk, smart phones have full internet, use it, 100x better to have the full site and all its features

We're fortunate to have applications such as Tapatalk. Have you used it before?

It saves a crap load of bandwidth. If the only concern now is not making ad revenue (cause that would obviously be a problem), charge for the app. I'd pay up to $5 for it. The site would make more money, and the users would save money on mobile data usage.

People don't keep bringing this up to annoy you guys. I just wanted to see if coldshadow would give it a second thought.

The site would not make more money since no one would buy the app when we can use our smartphones internet for free? Who cares about bandwidth, I dont get charged per bandwidth when you have wifi  There are VERY FEW places anyone goes were you cant pick up free wifi or an AT&T hot spot :na:

Wifi at home, wifi at work, wifi in the malls, wifi were I get my hair cut, wifi everywhere. ONLY place you dont get wifi is while driving and you shouldnt be on LPF while driving to begin with! You are required to have a data plan with smartphones too, sorry if you got screwed into one of the 'new' "get less, pay more" plans but my grandfathered AT&T 2gb plan is NEVER used 100% (sorry used all 2gb once and I streamed iHeart radio at work everyday for 3 weeks without the wifi on, my bad :()

You're right. How could I be so stupid... Thinking people use their mobile data these days...

95% of smartphone owners dont use even close to half of their data plan. Data plans are a scam when you think about it. They force you to buy one with all smartphones and then people dont use it since wifi is so readily available for free. Check your phones data usage and you will see BUT no provider will let you cancel it since its free money to them. You arent stupid, you just dont see the scam behind it. Its not illegal in any way, its just everyone is forced into it.

While I agree that the speed of phones now and the size of the screen makes them considerably better than 3+ year old smartphones for browsing, it's still not a particularly pleasant experience browsing and posting on a forum on one. It's just about doable on a tablet.

An ideal solution is not tapatalk but a "mobile version" of the website. A photography forum I'm on has recently moved from vBulletin to something else and it automatically adapts the size of the forum elements and text wrap to suit whatever screen you're on, and quite frankly it's wonderful. Come to think of it vBulletin is looking a bit dated these days.

Even on my relatively old smartphone (HTC Desire Original) I find I can use the forum if I need too. Although I don't use it much on my mobile. The ONLY problem is that the PM drop down menu sometimes doesn't work.
