I'm sure you guys have all seen the pointless posts on the BST section. They are testing spam bots on our forum. I think we need to look into some filter software before they unleash the flood.

thx, i banned and locked thread

posts were coming from a botnet in estonia

going to see what i can to to prevent this in the future


can you guys plz keep reporting any issues here?

Only one of those threads has been banned or locked... The rest are still live.

I'm guessing these are being used to influence google rankings, as this site has a very high pagerank. I posted my theory in one of the spam threads, here: http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1240525786/0#5

Unfortunately even if these threads are locked, just being on the site helps the spammers out, and deletion is the only way we could make them ineffective.

yeah its for SEO purposes but the links are blocked

i have a custom script to remove the links from being posted so they can't succeed in their goals to increase PR

once we move to vbulletin this will be less of an issue


i just installed a new skin for vB and will being doing the import this weekend

i think its b/c spammers got imported from yabb lol

annoying but ill delete them as we notice them
