It actually gives me time to take care of business instead of checking LPF every 5 minutes;)
All aside, I hope it's not causing Avery too much grief with what ever the problem is.

the 4hr downtime on sunday night was due to a scheduled server move which required having the server powered down and moved to another building

my host let me know in advance about this but there was no choice just had to do it

when the forum has a message that it is in maintenance mode it usually means a backup is being done.. i am in the process of moving to a new server that will allow this process to be much faster. estimated time for configuring the new system and doing testing will be 20hrs... we will not be moving to the new system until late next month

until then i have a new backup process that it is still a lot faster=)

what time was the site down today, and were there any error messages or did DNS just not resolve

Hey c0ld.... I think there should be window somewhere... perhaps on the Main
Forum page "Advising/Warning" of an impending Shutdown or maintenance
period so we know it's coming an take precautions on posting...

I've been caught to0 many times loosing a lengthy carefully composed response
to a Thread... when suddenly the Form is down and I need to start all over
again when it's back up...

Even eBay/PayPal announces down times for certain areas being worked on
before they actually do it.
This obviously would have nothing to do with Acts of God or unprovoked
breakdowns...

Like for Backups... if they were always done between X:XX and Y:YY we would
be aware of the maintenance approaching.

Just my

[EDIT]
Yeah... like Dave said "Server not found" like somebody pulled the plug at
your end..

i wasn't aware of the downtime today but i am suspecting it was a DNS problem since i don't see any vbulletin errors.

if this happens again can u do a ping laserpointerforums.com and see if the IP address resolves

sorry for any inconvenience

note: i am moving to a new server late next month and it should help speed up the backup process resulting in less maintenance mode's interrupting posts.
