Should we add a flashlight section?

Should we add a "Flashlights & Other Lighting" section?

I think it would be great to add something like this under the "off-topic" section, considering how many "flashaholics" we have here. It would also help keep all of the light reviews out of the reviews section! I see quite a few light stuff popping up in the "other" section, too. We need a place to discuss different LEDs and lights, especially the cheaper light threads that are literally instantly deleted from CPF. I stopped going there just because it was so biased and the mods wouldn't let anyone have free discussion about things... Anyways, let me know what you think.

Well as this laser pointer forums i do think to some extent there has to be a line in the sand.
But i don't think that adding a flashlight section considering we tear them to pieces for our lasers would be crossing that line.
But it should be kinda like "other light source" for flashlights lasers neon's and other such things.

I'm usually over on CPF (Candlepower Forums) for that -- though they do sometimes discuss lasers, and, these days, i'm over here a lot more even though I've got a bit of an obsession with blinding -non coherent- light, too.

The guys there are pretty similar to us; talk of drivers, mA ratings vs output ratings, color wavelengths, etc.

I'm sure we could all enjoy a  together.

The main reason I considered this is because like I said, mods will almost instantly delete any post mentioning DX, and it's really frustrating only being able to talk about "the best of the best". I did a huge review of a DX light, and it was closed. I posted the exact same thing again, lol, and it stayed. Twice since then I have posted about different KD lights, and both were deleted... It just gets annoying. Plus, I know people here. :)

I would certainly be interested in something like a flashlights & other light sources section. Hope enough others are interested too.

I'm not really too much into flashlights but would like to say I'm NOT a fan of CPF. I was banned for talking about lasers... they wanted me to pay them money to be unbanned.

I don't really mind having the flashlight reviews here though. sometimes the lights are pretty cool.

I think the better way can be open a poll thread (or better ..... ask a mod if is more easy to open a new one and link it here, or just turn this thread in a poll) about this, then submit the replies to c0ld, at the end, so he can take the final decision about opening it or not ..... ;)

Yeah it would be nice having a more casual place to discuss flashlights. CPF is full of flashlight nazis who flame you unless you're posting about some way overpriced surefire light..

I remember being a new member there and getting into an argument with some veteran about how his surefire was a waste of money. I ended up getting banned for "trolling" despite doing nothing to warrant a ban.

So....I made a new account on a proxy and totally Fubar'd their forum giving it database errors and whatnot by spamming QUOTE PYRAMIDS LOL. Yes they didn't have any limit on quotes in a post. It took them like 3 days to get to the bottom of it because the threads hit with a quote bomb would just lock up and the mods couldn't even see who did it.

I understand why a flashlight sub section would be handy, but since this is laserpointerforums I don't think it would really be suitable, I think LPF should stick to lasers. The other section is still fine for posting the one of reviews and things on cool flashlights.

Uh just look at the off-topic sections... They're practically a cross between 4chan and a porn forum.

I would say its not a bad idea. LEDs share many driver circuits that we use for lasers, and LEDs especially are a growing technology right along with lasers. I also think we ought to consider how many light shows guys we have here. They certainly use more than lasers to put together a good show.

If it's in the "other" section, why not? No one would be forced to visit it! Lol

I like the idea - keep it as a subforum of Off Topic but definitely allow it to be separate from Other - CPF isn't brilliant IMO, something's always put me off it. We share some common concepts with our flashlight brothers, so the crossover can only be a good thing - and the advertising dollars always help out...

Sure, if they could keep it in the "Other" section, but you know thats not going to happen, and it will spill into the main forum. One guy spent 2 weeks trying to trade his crappy flashlights for lasers. Imagine 100 or more of them. Plus the BST will be full of people selling flashlights. I'm not here to talk about flashlights, and its bad enough most threads are filled with crap. Add some flashlight blab, and the laser discussion fades into the background.

I vote no.
