Seriously in need of forum sub-sub-sections!

Avery,

Especially with the latest "Arctic Craze" happening, the 445nm sub-section of the forum has become increasingly clustered with threads somehow pertaining to the WL Spyder III Pro Arctic. There has been much request (most likely from those not interested, or those that haven't purchased it) to refrain from making new threads on the topic, and to just post all things pertaining to the Arctic in one thread. Seeing as there are so many different issues regarding it, it would create much disorganization within that sole thread (which has already happened to a certain extent). Now more than ever, we could use a forum mod for sub-sub-sections within the forum. For example, a "Spyder III Pro Arctic & Related" sub-sub-section within the 445nm sub-section, a "WTB" sub-sub-section within the BST sub-section, etc. These would be kind of like a folder within the sub-section containing all threads pertaining to that subject.

Please take this into consideration, but by all means take your time because we all know you're a very busy guy and have far more important things to deal with than a measly little laser forum ;)

Thanks enormously!

Sincerely,
-Chris

i think it might be best to leave as is, wouldn't want to have an entire section for just a single type of laser

also i think it would clutter the front page too much , don't want it to grow to big vertically with different sections. it would be best to save the space for a new section for a new laser type or whatever, instead of using subsections that take up a lot of space for very specific things

just my 2 cents tho. i dont think there is anything wrong w/ all the spyder iii chat, it just happens at this time it is a very popular topic.

Sounds like a semi-permanent fix for a temporary situation.

Peace,

No way.

It's just a model of laser. There's nothing special about it that merits a sub community dedicated to it.

Lay off the hype for a day, cmak.

This argument is even less valid with the introduction of the NOVA Atlantis

How about a section for commercial lasers then? :) and one for research and one for DIY.

The existing schema of the forum is that the boards (for lasers) are segregated by "color." Altering the basic schema to deal with a very temporary bump in postings, would seem a bit drastic.

Yes it is confusing right now. However, this hype will not be forever. I believe that if we ride this through, everything will be fine.

I actually believe that the new 445nm board will be re-absorbed into the "other colors" board or that 473nm lasers will be added to the board and it will become the "blue" board

Peace,
dave

Totally not how I meant this to be... I figured that the forum could have an option for moderators to add "folders" within existing threads, and to access them, one would need to first enter the sub-section and then they would see the sub-sub-section amongst all the other threads, and then clicking on that would take them to that separate space, or something of that essence. No extra vertical space for the front page, and in face this could potentially help eliminate some (if you get my idea). I figured this would not only settle the current situation but also be a great addition to the forum in many future situations as well.

Once again, I guess my idea came off a bit wrong... it was not just a "fix for a temporary situation" but rather a great idea for the forum in general. This could be very helpful beyond the current situation if you see what I'm getting at...

Never said anything about a sub-section, let alone a "sub community" (which I interpreted as sub-section automatically...) but the idea was to add a mod to the forum that would allow for sub-sub-sections, like a "folder" listed amongst all the other threads inside an existing sub-section. So in the case of the Arctic craze, basically you click on 445nm as usual, then you'll see a "Arctic Section" folder in line with all the other threads, and you can click on it to enter that sub-sub-section's space (or it could be like one of those horizontal arrows in Windows Explorer/Finder, where you can expand/collapse those threads in line with all the other ones on that page). But now I'm just being repetitive :p

Ah, some much-needed advice. I'll take it. :shhh:

I think Dave & Avery are correct. The speed that laser technology is advancing, we can't expect to have a sub-sub section opened for every new laser or laser style that comes out. If we did that, the front page would be 3 pages long.

You're probably thinking of sub-sections (e.g. 445nm, Reviews, Companies, BST, Polls, etc.). I'm talking about sub-sub-sections that wouldn't even show on the front page.

Anyways, there isn't enough (okay, there isn't any) support for my idea, hence I rest my case. :yh:
