Here's what this thread is based off of: http://laserpointerforums.com/f57/too-many-stickys-43553.html

Long story short: There are way too many stickies and people bumping their sales threads and drowning out one time sales. There are so many things stickied in the BST section that it takes up the entire top of the page. There is even a stickied thread selling flashlights, which IMO shouldn't be stickied in a laser pointer forum (although I'm fine with those being sold here). I think a possible solution is to make a separate section for continual sales of items like kits and leave the original BST section for one time sales of stuff. This will eliminate all of the sales stickies and leave room for one tames sales. TJ suggested naming the new section "the Pro Shop" which is a good name IMO. In the Pro Shop, there cannot be any sales stickies because once one person gets a sticky, everybody else will want a sticky and it will become the same mess that it is now in the BST section.

Ideas?

I think we should make a new section named "Famous Sales" and place all the stickied sale threads there. As for the original B/S/T section, we should leave it for any temporary sales. That's a better idea IMO. And yes, the big amount of stickies is annoying whenever I browse the B/S/T section. If you understood, I suggest the opposite of what styropyro said. But that's just my opinion.

Regards, Peter

So make that "Pro Shop section for temporary sales and leave the original B/S/T section for the stickied sales?

No. The other way around. The "pro's" get a board with just the "ongoing" sales threads. The B/S/T board then is used only by members with one off or temporary sales threads.

For example Jayrob would be in the "Pro Shop" board and I would be in the B/S/T board.

If I decided to keep my modules available all the time (in stock), then I would move to the "Pro Shop."

Peace,
dave

**EDIT** oh yeah -- my vote. I like the idea of a pro shop board.

i agree with the idea of a "2nd" bst section for the current stickied items..

i do think that there are way too many stickies, to see new threads i have to scroll down @ least half way down the page. this would eliminate that problem.

my vote is YES on the "pro shop" idea

thats my opinion on the matter

I like the idea of the most common, well-known and/or popular items, ones with the continuous supply, having their own board. Perhaps there could also be a limit, so that only "trustworthy" sellers, or sellers who have otherwise proven their reputation can sell items in this section, whereas the "General" B/S/T section is open to all, with a warning about the higher risk associated with buying from unproven members.

No seller should get any special treatment, let the rep system take care of who is trustworthy or w/e. We just need to make the B/S/T board less cluttered. And that will not work if only a handful of members can make sales in a special board. Besides, with no MODS, who will gate-keep this 'VIP' board??

^ agreed 100%. With no moderators we won't be able to control who can post topics in that section or not so we might as well let everybody do it.

I like the name Pro Shop or Laser Pro Shop...anything to do with Lasers..
I don't think anyone selling shoes should be there....

I also like the idea of a section away from the "once in a while" sales...
just like Dave said only for members that sell and have a regular supply
of stocked items should be in the Pro Shop...

We have cold here to take care of things... maybe they take a bit longer
without Mods... but they get done..

We have a section that only veterans can get to and post... maybe
that is the way to set up this Pro Shop section...

I agree with the idea of a seperate "power sellers" section. IMO, there should also be a rule against posting in a (non-powerseller) tread unless you're the seller. I'm sick of simple sales treads becoming full blown discussions, flamewars or a "Holy crap, that's a good price..." trash. The way I see it, there is no real reason to respond to a sales tread; any prospective buyers can contact the seller via PM. There is no need for 10 posts of "OMG that's a good/low price" or "ZOMG why's it so expensive"...

People have to be able to post. It is how most "talk" to the sellers. Unfortunately, "ZOMG!" and "Trash" type posts ar part of doing business in a forum. Not only are they inevitable. They are desired. These kinds of posts are how momentum is built.

Without this interaction all you have is a stack of advertisements. You might as well limit the "regular" sellers to banner ads only.

The Sales thread would allow customers to ask questions publically..
that way the same questions wouldn't be asdked 100 times in PMs..
The customer is always welcome to contact the buyer by PM if he is shy
or has a special request...
Annoying questions and trash posts are a way of life on any Forum.....

Daguin - Sorry if I wasn't more clear, I was suggesting that this "no responding to treads" rule be applied to the "private sales". I definitely see the purpose in allowing responses to the regular sellers' tread. I'm more annoyed at these useless posts in the private sales treads. I'm on forums that are much larger than LPF and they have the "no responding through treads" rule implimented. IMO, it's a much easier read than sifting through a bunch of useless responses to find the seller's responses.

So far the poll is 100% for this section...

We still need to figure out who can post in there. IMO, because this forum doesn't have mods and it would take forever to allow certain people in with only c0ld approving members, we should just allow everybody to post in it and hope we don't get many trash threads.

Once this section is created, we will need the current continual sale threads in the BST section moved over, I think it would be best to get a list of the threads needed to be moved so we can save c0lds PM box a little bit from every person asking their thread to be moved. Here are the stickies that should be moved:

@digital_blue..

Yeah but you still have the basic info on the 1st post... and with no posting allowed
all the info/answers a seller responds with is not seen at all...

BTW if the Sales are private how is a Member to see it...:undecided:
