I really enjoyed that movie :)

Warning: Movie spoilers below!

I love entire concept of the movie. Especially travelling part is something unique and might be scientifically explainable. I see it as reality separation for a tiny moment when module was falling through, going to the surreal world to observe different realities and getting back in a moment - just the soul travelled and matter seemed to stay. But really? My opinion is the matter stopped to be observable - stopped to exist in Earth's reality for a moment due to enormous fields created (gravity of the module itself however remained a question). This allowed the soul to travel everywhere instantly. Everything happened in that surreal world and just quantum essence (seemingly random behaviour of spacetime at scales of quantum foam) was transfering information from remote areas except some (this on beach) - which happend in the surreal world entirely. There is a concept of my philosophy that soul is the energy and therefore matter - reality is created through interaction and observation since here the wave function collapses. More will be in my article (takes a bit more time as expected). That's the main reason why I love this movie (even it was maybe not intended to be the interpretation). In addition it is bringing strict scientist into more deep world, which was not explained yet, but current science goes this course and has trouble with it due to conventions and fear not to loose its serious essence. But even Einstein was revolutionary thinker going out of the box and bringing new science by breaking old concepts and answering unanswered. A lot is in that movie. Many questions remain and especially the fact the recording lasts the time spent in the surreal world is strange and saying there was a real trip behind. The interesting is it behaves like universe as composed from many realities, which are just a hologram - projection - like I do with my art (however these are photos only, but with interference patterns). ;)

I hope it makes a sense at least a bit.

And to think that for some institutions this is as easy of a purchase as us buying a 532 pointer !

-Alex

Well, easy financially maybe, but you're forgetting all of the bureaucracy that goes into a purchase that pricey. ;) I've been trying to get a purchase for ~$35,000 through for months now... Between getting quotes and getting things approved/signed off on it can take a while. :p

Is this the "if I could have anything in my wildest dreams" day? Seems to be. Mine are much less extravagant. I'd settle for a 10 watt 532nm DPSS used.

diachi what do you do for a living, Obviously something that requires a $35,000.00 dollar laser ?

Nope ;)

I doubt very seriously that his $35,000 purchase is for a laser.

You are correct. It's for refurb/repair on a big UPS.

Like this (not my image, but we have much the same, just different modules installed):

That's not including the $7,000 we already spent flying someone in to do diagnostics/attempt repairs. I prefer not to touch it at any rate, I see bus bars and immediately go "NOPE!".
