The multiple universe theory postulates that the cat is either dead in this universe, or alive in another and vice versa, there is no middle reality in any one universe.

The question is at what moment the universe splits into two, since the box with cat can be described by wave function before it colapses when observation is made by openning the box. So at certain moment the cat can be considered half dead half alive. The tricky part here is - the cat already knows it is alive or dead (not sure here as it might not realized it died, but it will realize breaking the flask with poison and if the poison is the same as in original experiment - HCN - it will be suffering quite a lot likely).
