The rep system is kinda getting abused, IMO. There are people who ASK for reps, rep people to try to get them to rep back, and sometimes for no reason at all... it sorta defeats the purpose. these systems are in place so people can know who the really knowledgeable and helpful people are... and here, you see +1's with no other reason than "so i herd u liek mudkipz", "+1 cuz j00 repped me", and "zomgzorz what a funneh post". :-?

So, it'd be great if you had good reasons (relating to helpful answers, knowledge, and stuff) before you rep people. Just food for thought.

i've come to the conclusion that the rep system is good, it works.
let me put it this way:

you can see someone with a +11 reputation
you sometimes feel the need to go and see what people think about him so you click on the "11" and read the comments, if you read "helped me to build XXXXX" / "did a FAQ and wins!" / "shipped me stuff for free THANK YOU" and so on, you see he is a reputable member.

but if you see that all those +11 pts. are just "hey give me rep back!" / "i want pizza"
then you see his rep is not that TRUE

so you stop caring

now,
if you see a member with -9 rep pts. then you KNOW he just has not a very good reputation (yeah sometimes there are "rep fights" and childish stuff like that, but it wont ever reach that amount of negative reputation). so the system basically works for me as its intention to fulfill the achievement of actually knowing WHO is NOT a good member is really working...

so i say we should leave it as it is,
you already know who are reputable members & who are not..

;)

PD: if people ask for reps and they give each other rep back then its just meaningless rep, as i said before, it doesnt matter, nobody will ever achieve an ULTRAMEGAHIGH reputation by asking "hey d00d give me raep" (yeah, haha, raep).

More often then not people don't bother giving rep where rep is deserved.

Well, you got the knowledge and I got the lulz. Separately we are weak, together we are unstoppable! ;D

And you made the faq (along with certain others) which is more than I can say for myself.

A sure sign rep dosnt work as intended just look at VillageIdiots rep comments not saying your not a great guy just saying the rep points are for pointless things.

VillageIdiot not trying to put you on the spot yours was just the easiest to click on as it was the last post

I have to agree. There are only a handful of members who take the initiative to recognize these cases.
But I also agree with nikokapo about the clarifying comments.

It kinda works like a voting system too. Like if the majority of the members enjoying Village Idiots comic anecdotes and get a rise, then he will have lots of rep. Usually those who acquire real help jump to their projects rather then take the time to give a deserved rep point! :p

In conclusion, I believe the rep system is ok as is. Everybody is free to do as they wish with it, as it may pose as a game for some, will act as a tool for others. It's pretty clear in the comments.

Now, here's the easy solution.

We form a 'rep vigilante'. We go around just adjusting peoples reps till they are what they should be.

So, if someones rep is say, 10. And it really deserves to be -10, we go and get 20 members of the vigilante to -1 him :)

Problem solved :)
