Has anyone else noticed that once you make a post and
if you immediately (within a few seconds) go back to edit
the post... you will see a "Lasted edited by xxxxxxxxx"
under your edited post..

A while back there was a discussion about some disgruntled
members unnecessarily editing/deleting their posts....
The Admin tried a few things to lockout the editing/deleting
after a certain time but was found to hinder more that help.
The lockout was disabled and was returned to the way it was...
so it seemed.

Originally when you made a Post... you could go back and
edit a post as many times as you wanted (without the "Lasted
edited by xxxxxxxxx
" message appearing under your Post until
another member posted something...

I often re-read my just Posted text and decide to make a quick
grammar or spelling correction...

It seems that ever since the Edit lockout trial was disabled....
90% of my posts have that "Lasted edited
by xxxxxxxxx
" message appearing under them...

It would be nice if we could get back to the original way the
Edit timeout worked...

More exactly, there was a timeout for the "edited ....." indication ..... in the past, at least, when i was correcting my typos in, say, less than a minute or two, the "edited ....." indication was not present, where instead if i was noticing the typos and correcting them after 10 or 15 minutes, reading back what i posted, the indication was there, indifferently if some other user had posted something in the meantime or not.

Now instead, also if i realize the error in a second and immediately edit it, the indication is there the same ..... probably is only this timeout, that is removed.

Not a big problem for me, anyway ..... the only difference is that, before, i had the possibility to hide my typos, where instead now all can see them :p :D

EDIT: as i said ..... perhaps i need a new keyboard :p :D

There is an option on the forum CP called "Time to Wait Before Starting to Display 'Last Edited by...'"

Actually i edit most of my posts immediately after posting them :shhh:

I assume you are talking about the Admin Only vBulletin Forum CP
and not the User CP...

I have also noticed this, it kinda works on my nerves...

My english certainly isnt the best so i have to do a few grammar corrections from time to time.

Some people might say, check your spelling before you post, but still there are some typo's that slip through which i happen to notice just after i post.

There should be either a half minute time after a post has been made to adjust it or untill some person has read the thread.

Edit you see now it happend again:p

Agree; I'd like the timeout for "Lasted edited by xxxxxxxxx" to be either increased (a LOT), or just *remove it alltogether* (what real purpose does it serve?).

I see this change has been implemented already if you guys have not noticed.

I hope it has not been removed because it could cause confusion. For instance after any of you guys comment on my post whether it being agreeing or disagreeing with what I have said I could then edit it to discuss Hitler and my favorite types of Popsicles.

Maybe this example is a bit far fetched but I only came to this section because within the last few minutes I commented on a post that was later edited with no "edit note" at the bottom and it caused me a bit of confusion.

In the end is it that big of a deal that people see you edited your post? I edit my posts all the time right after I post them. I dont think anyone looks down on me for it. I am not embarrassed that I took the time to reread my post and correct it.

Ironically I see that the edit does still exist but the timeout must have been pushed forward or something is screwy with the thread.

I find it a bit annoying to not be allowed to correct your post within
seconds after posting without that "last edited by XXXXX" ...
If someone posts after you.... then OK... or at least give us 1-2 minutes
to correct spelling and grammar...

EDIT... I just edited within 4 seconds and that damn thing is still there

Looks like we are all a bunch of uneducated morons that can't write
proper English..:D

You know I think I just missed it because I dont really notice it if someone has a sig. It looks like nothing was changed I was just primed to look for it after looking at this thread.

I understand what you are saying and if there was a way to set it so that you could edit as much as you want before someone else posted then there would be no problem with getting rid of it. I dont know if such a setting exists though.

The point of changing the time setting was because of people editing their posts to cover something stupid they said, changing buy/sell posts, and scammers covering their tracks. We had a big discussion on this, and thats why it changed. Now people want it gone because its doing what its suppose to do. I dont like it either, but you cant have both. I'd rather keep scams, and other missuses in check, so I live with it. I dont think that because we're used to proof reading our posts after they are posted a good enough reason to go back.

Personally the "Last edited by" doesn't bother me either way, and I think does more harm than good.

What does annoy me a lot is the width of the text box in the quick reply and the overall size of the advanced editing reply box.

What harm does it do?

Lol, actually meant to put those words in opposite order. I'm somewhat of a dyslexic reader/typist:p

This is a perfect example though. If you didn't quote me, and there was no "Last edited by" I could have just changed it, and then asked what you were talking about. In a sale thread that could lead scamming.

Thats what the "Go Advanced" button is for.

The box there is actually a little less wide, but deeper. Still way too small imo.

If the posts themselves are formatted to stretch across whatever screen you have, and so is the "edit" box, why can't the regular boxes also be of the screen width?
