[EDIT] As of June 17 2009... this issue has been fixed

I came across a problem trying to click a link to Daguin's 8X thread...
Post Number 393 on this Thread....

http://www.laserpointerforums.com/laser_pointer_forums_3/forum/showthread.php?t=36790

Here is the original link from jayrob to post #393....

Pioneer 8X Blu-Ray-- BDR-203 - Page 16 - Laser Pointer Forums - Discuss Lasers & Laser Pointers

and here is the link that I require to see the same post...

Pioneer 8X Blu-Ray-- BDR-203 - Page 10 - Laser Pointer Forums - Discuss Lasers & Laser Pointers

I just did some more testing... I am at 40 posts per page in my CP options...
and this is the page count on Dave's 8X Thread at different posts/page
in my CP settings...

Signed in

40 p/p = 12 pages
30 p/p = 16 pages
20 p/p = 24 pages
10 p/p = 47 pages
05 p/p = 93 pages
Default 25 p/p = 19 pages

Not signed in
25 p/p = 19 pages

BTW...I'm using FF 3.0.1 and a screen setting of 1024 X 768

I tried the same link (without signing in) using IE and I got 19 pages on
Daguins 8X Thread.. just like jayrob and his link to page 16 worked...

When I signed in on IE the thread page count for that same 8X thread
dropped to 12.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think everyone will need to be on the same
number of posts per page for links in threads to work for everyone...

Let me know if you see the same thing... let me know how many
pages you
count on the first page of a multi-page Thread..

[EDIT] As of June 17 2009... this issue has been fixed

Hey Jerry, the default selection gives 25 posts per page. Do you have a default selection?

Yeah there is a default... but I like to get 40 posts per page...
and this problem should not happen...

@k1kb0t... thanks for the info...;)

Possibly the answer is just somehow directing to the post number in the thread, and not the page number...

Maybe Avery can find an answer to this. But yeah... this means that many links in posts are incorrect...

I'm getting 19 pages on all of them. I go to the top of page 10 (ammars post) on the first and last link, and FrancoRobs post (393) with the middle link. 25 posts per page.

Hope this helps...

Jay... you must be at 25 posts per page... when I set my CP to (default)
25 P/P... your link works just fine..

@T_J... yeah.... your CP Options is set to Default also...
set it at something other than default and the links won't direct you properly..

BTW... I see I have a poroblem spelling the title....:yabbem:

Yep... I am getting 25 posts per page.

I just wonder if there is a way that Avery can set it up so that it will only see the post number for the thread. That way all of the links will work still.

But I doubt that it can be done. And many post links will not work.

At least make it so that in the future, you can link to a specific post in a thread, and it will work no mater how many post per page different users have.

Anyway, it's good you caught this while the new forum is still relatively young!

Changed it to 40..

First link Top of page 10 of 12
Second link Top of page 12 of 12 Jays post
Third link Page 10 of 12 FrankoRobs post 393

Also when I first clicked the links after I set it to 40 posts per page, the same pages came up as when it was set to 25. I had to re-refresh each page to get the correct result.

I wonder if we really need a choice of how many posts we have on a page...
if the default 25 P/P were the only choice... I think it would solve this issue..
I believe that most of the members must still be on the default setting anyway..

@ T_J... thanks for testing that...:yh:

That would definitely be the best fix for making the majority of the existing links work. Probably over 95% of them anyway...

I for that fix, but there may be a few who have custom settings that may not like that idea. Sure would fix most of the links though!

That would ruin all of the existing links. (95% of them) Better to make it so that it is always 25 posts per page and not configurable...

I agree... I think I may be one of the few guys that really liked (the old) the last "40 posts"...
so when I saw 40 posts per page I jumped on that as my setting...

I'm convinced that the default 25 posts/page must have been changed by only a few members...
