I agree... I think I may be one if the few guys that really liked (the old) the last "40 posts"...
so when I saw 40 posts per page I jumped on that as my setting...

I'm convinced that the default 25 posts/page must have been changed by only a few members...

Jerry

its possible to change the forum default to 40 posts per page (i have a testing forum) but if it changed all links will not work
all other people have the same problem on their forum

Another solution would be to just link directly to the reply, not the whole post...

This link:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/laser_pointer_forums_3/forum/showpost.php?p=501020&postcount=393
should work for everyone regardless of how many posts per page you have it set to.

Good point, but what Jerry and I are talking about, is what about all of the existing links that are in a lot of threads? Most, if not all of those are already pointing to a '25 posts per page' link, so the way to save those, is to keep the default to 25, and make it non-configurable...

I'm not sure it that will work Avery...

I went to the post from FrancoRob and saw the 'permalink'. So I copied it. Here is what I copied:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/l...oneer-8x-blu-ray-bdr-203-a-16.html#post501020

It looks like it still says page 16. (because I have 25 posts per page in my default setting)

Jerry, since you have 40 posts per page in your settings, does this new link that I have pasted here go to the graph? I would doubt it. Because it is on page 10 for you...

Avery, if it doesn't work for Jerry, then maybe the easiest answer is to make the default setting of 25 posts per page non-configurable. That way every body has 25 posts per page, and the links will work for all users.
Jay

Edit: Hey you did fix it Avery! I just tested it by changing my settings to allow 40 posts per page. Then I came here and clicked my link that I had saved from my default setting. And it went to the graph that I had posted. It was on page 10 though. :gj:

Not to complain but I just posted a link and you cant hardly tell its a link. It looks like all the rest of the text except a little darker. Do you think you could change the color so its more pronounced?

IMO a better opinion to the link problem would be to default the forum to 25 posts and remove the users option to change that setting like the old forum.

Yeah... that would make all (or most) of the existing links in threads work for all users.

Its off toptic but while I have your attention. Over night I've developed a problem. When I log on a thread it loads then the ads change, and it loads again, then they change again, ect. I have to keep closing my browser and opening it back up again till it stops. Sometimes it takes quite a while before it stops reloading repeatedly. It started around 2 AM EST time. I'm using IE6. Also I get logged out for no reason from time to time.

Also if you notice Jerry's first post he has 3 different links but they all say the same thing. How are you suppose to know what link is what? If you post multiple links to the same thread or page there is no way to know which one is which.

hi all, it cost $149 but i think vbseo has fixed the problem with links. this is technically not a bug in vbulletin but just the way it handles links

with vbseo modification now we can have prettier URLS'

http://www.laserpointerforums.com/l...nts/41255-poroblem-linking-posts-threads.html

for example

please let me know if this helps

Hey c0ld...
I just tried this.... I like it... :thanks:
It lets you know in advance of what thread you're getting linked to...
and the link data is a lot shorter...:gj:
Guess it's time to make another Donation this month to pay for part of this...

Eh... guys...

[EDIT] Donation sent....

Yeah... Jay.. your FrancoRob link above works on my 40 pages per page setting as
well as the 25 p/p setting...

All is good in the Kingdom of LPF....:worthy:

Yeah I've been meaning to donate, but life has a habit of taking any extra money I have. I'll make one tonight...I have to use my aunts PP account.

And yes it has stopped. Thank you!!!

Hey T-J...
for the different links from the same post with the same name..
all you would need to do is state what it points to..

Prior to this the links said nothing that usefull....

Someone says "Click here to see the Pretty Laser..." and you know
where the link will take you..:)
