I completely agree.

I know ads are important, and you can stick as many of them around the forums as you want, but as soon as you start putting big ads into threads you start making these forums more annoying to use, and good ad placement should never get in the way of the actual product.

At the top of the forums there is a more 'horizontal' set of google ads. Stick a set of those in there instead.

Today I realised that between the first and the second post there isnt only the Stonetek ad , which never really disturbed me , but also a huge google ad :

And sometimes there is just ... nothing:

I know ads are important to finance the forum but these ads are just too big , would it be possible to remove them or to replace them with smaller ones?

Then c0ld gets nothing. If the ads don't load in the first place, they don't register as a hit and they don't earn anything.

You can block the ads which REALLY bother you and leave the other ones right where they are, no need to block them all ;)

Thats the point!

I have an adblock addon @ firefox but it makes no sense to put ads onto your site if everyone blocks them..

That's pretty neat!

Personally though I don't use any adblocking software, I have a Firefox addon called 'Flashblock' instead that blocks anything Flash from being displayed unless you click on a button to allow it, and since all the annoying ads are Flash, it works out nicely :)

I agree with the OP. I'm not going to change my freakin' browser just so that I can block out ads. These are only going to lose us traffic. Please, c0ld, remove these, and put them at the top or the bottom of the pages. Ads should not interfere with the performance of the forum itself.

If they help keep the forum going and brings improvements than all the power to you. Its easy to ignore them with only one panel in the thread. Not like it repeats every post.
..that would suck. :(

EDIT: Oopsy. :-/ ...just saw 2 in one thread. I take it back :-[

I wouldn't be opposed to a nice big horizontal ad.

But at the moment it's a giant square with two huge empty patches either side of it and it's a waste. You could easily stick a nice massive wide google ad there and it wouldn't be much of a problem!

Hi All,

Thanks for the feedback. I removed the ads -- in the future I will use a longer and skinnier size (horizontal).

Please remember however, advertising supports the forum. The site is growing extremely quickly and I recently had to upgrade our server to an advanced VPS plan. I have an advanced backup solution configured in addition to a second physical server for emergencies. Traffic is increasingly every day we may need to increase bandwidth soon.

Yours,

YaBB 2.4 was released today, http://www.yabbforum.com/downloads.php

I may upgrade soon and hire on of the YaBB programmers to design an impressive laser-related layout. Additionally, looking into the possibly of having "Laser Videos" section in profile, or something to upload favorite media and pictures.

We can discuss all this stuff more in another thread.

Anyways, enjoy the forum and thanks for feedback
