YaBB 2.4 was released today, http://www.yabbforum.com/downloads.php

I may upgrade soon and hire on of the YaBB programmers to design an impressive laser-related layout.  Additionally, looking into the possibly of having "Laser Videos" section in profile, or something to upload favorite media and pictures.

We can discuss all this stuff more in another thread.

Anyways, enjoy the forum and thanks for feedback

There is so much knowledge over here, we got precious members.

I agree with the OP.  I'm not going to change my freakin' browser just so that I can block out ads.  These are only going to lose us traffic.  Please, c0ld, remove these, and put them at the top or the bottom of the pages.  Ads should not interfere with the performance of the forum itself.

If you have to change your browser to do that then you're using the wrong one ;)

Haha I was going to say the exact same thing... ;D

I'll be looking forward to hearing about the laser videos in profile. ;)

Personally, with the number of huge animated signatures that people use on these forums, I didnt even notice the ads.

I remember reading an interesting article regarding advert performance, that may help. Basically, established members to a site will rarely if ever click, unless they consciously choose to click in support of the site, whereas adverts shown to random people "just stopping by" perform much better on average. This is why registering to some sites reduces the number of adverts shown. Also, if you want to target this "market" of people just stopping by, making sure load times are instantaneous is very important - what I find is the banners load nearly instantly, but it takes a few seconds for any content to be displayed. This will undoubtably be "fixed" by moving from YaBB.

Yeah this happens to me too. The Laserwave banner slows my laptop (933mhz) to a crawl. I have to dump the temp files every so often so my browser doesn't crash.

I say KEEP all the ads you need to keep, c0ld.

As long as there are no pop-ups who cares if you have to scroll past a few ads.

Ads keep this forum alive.

when a page loads now, all you see are ads: the title banner, some link ads, two banner ads, and three columns of google ads. to get to any content I have to scroll down a whole page.

If you need to know when too much is, it's when people start considering the necessity of ad blocking to see the content.

Yeah, I opened LPF in IE recently and noticed that I actually needed to scroll down to see any content because above the fold is all google ads.

I know a forum needs ads to support it, but I think there is a line and needs to be drawn somewhere between revenue generation and actual forum usability. Instead of placing more ads, why not remove a few and just tweak the placement of them?

Since the removal of the Laserwave banner my browser loads real fast, and no need to dump the temp files anymore.

Very nice

hi brian, had to delete one of your posts b/c it could interfere w/ terms of service for ad provider

just want to be safe

thx for comments and suggestions.

i never want ads to interfere w/ operation of the site. at most there will be 3 banner ads on top of LPF, and in between posts any new banner ad will not be nearly as large as before. probably only 60 pixels tall and or something similar to size of stonetek.

just got back home from 2 days visiting family. amtrak was 3hrs late and have work in just a few hours its 2:17am lol.

gotta get some sleep but i'll be back tomorrow

feedback always appreciated.

peace

I guess I just dont see what the big deal is... You have to scroll to read posts anyway... it takes a flick of the finger on a mouse wheel and you're past it ;D ;D
