yeah it could work, it would be basically like the plugin for profanities, but the thing is there would be a lot more needed to be searched

each of the some 9000 users on the forum would need to be scanned against each thread.. not just like one or 2 curse words

im not sure if would be an issue or not but i posted on the vbulletin.org for feedback

if would be totally co0l if we could get this too work will keep u guys posted

No, you do not scan each thread for every name, as I said up there:

First you only scan if there is a
#string#
If there is not, move on,
But if there is, you then read the string and compare to user names.

Not search every time for everything, only when # symbols are used.

Uhm, maybe (a BIG maybe :p), it can be integrated in the curse words routine ..... if #string# is found, pass it to a subroutine that scan the users list independently, otherwise ignore it ..... but you need to hear from the VB developers, for check if this cannot interfer with all the other functions .....

Also a great idea, why have 2 subroutines when you can have one that does the job?

Too bad C0ld won't reply in some time now, let's keep the thread clean to make things easier for him, since he is already doing us (me especially) a big favour.

C0ld is a VERY busy man. This forum is NOT his job. In fact, I would posit that it normally costs him money to run. Not enough people are donating to the forum. It is one of the reasons that there is so much "self-moderation" in the forum. We are very patience with c0ld and protect his time as much as we can. He said he would post the query with the software forum. Have virtually infinite patience while waiting for his response.

Peace,

I know it is not my place or anything, but with all the adds filling up more than my 15" lappy screen, how come?
I mean, you litterary have to scroll down 2 pages to realise what site this is, under all the adds.
Also, donations are filling up the green bar monthly...
How could it cost him that much money?

Anyhow, back on topic, I have no problem waiting for his response, we are asking him a big favour after all, the least we can do is give him time.

He has to pay for the hosting fees. They're pretty expensive for a large forum.

Hardware
Software
Legal expenses
Personal time
Headache medicine
Gifts for BeautySoulQueen so she will let him spend time helping us while ignoring her

This is certainly not the largest forum in the world. However, we do get <3K hits in a 12 hour period. That bandwidth adds up.

Donations RARELY "fill" the donation bar. For example, it is the 25th of the month. The donation bar is only 65% full. Most of we regular contributors, donate at the beginning of the month. Who will fill the last 35% of the bar in the next 6 days?

Peace,
dave

Really? He hosts it himself? For some reason, I imagined that he would use a hosting service.

He uses a hosting service, but one cannot communicate with a hosting service telepathically ;)

I like the idea, it could work well.

But as mentioned if someone else can come up with the plugin over at VB forum forums (mouth full) as a working module that can be just installed hopefully it won't be too much hassle for Avery, in which case this would be a cool update otherwise I don't think all the hassle C0ld would have to go through to write a plugin is worth it.

Edit: Sorry if that didn't make much sense, I have a nasty man flu and can't think straight :(

Guys, please? :yabbem:
He won't have the time to read through 3 additional pages of text when he comes up with an answer, possibly skipping some information or anyting else we needed to tell him, like the idea of adding a subroutine to 'profanity' algorythm...

I'm sure that these ideas will be explored in the VB forum and c0ld will let us know.
