even with the slim and its 64mb of ram(compared to a phat psp's 32mb) it still had trouble loading alot of the pages.
the browser has limited ram. like 2-4mb. they never gave the browser full access to the ram. that is why psptube exists. games have access to all the ram so its suitable for rendering videos.

version 2.3 of YaBB is coming out in a week or so and i plan on giving it a try. there should not be any downtime.

the testing process will not interfere with current state of the forum, and will be separate.

the new version may be more mobile user friendly.

awesome! could you make a list of what new features YaBB 2.3 has and which you plan on using?

assuming the upgrade to 2.3 goes well, it will include all of these features:

1. Quick Reply Advanced Edition
2. Reverse Post in Topic Advanced Edition
3. YaBB Backup
4. Top of Page Button
5. Pie Charts for Polls
6. Showcase Poll
7. Preselected Smilies
8. Category Pictures
9. Image Resize
10. Multi-Attachments
11. Avatar Uploader
12. Split/Splice Advanced
13. Expand/Collapse Advanced
14. New Members E-Mail Notification (to Admin)
15. Extended Profiles
16. Spell Checker

the current version of the forum uses a lot of "mods" which need to be manually installed. for example, there is a mod for avatar uploading, and the reputation system.

the new version of yabb will be adding the functionality of many mods so there will no longer be a need for manually editing and modifying scripts. v 2.3 should also have speed improvements and layout improvements.

for more info see http://yabbforum.com

i would highly recommend yabb to anyone who wants to make a forum. it is free, robust, and easy to use.

Well, short of LPF providing a mobile / PDA format of their website, there is no PDA-sized device that can truly deal with a now-a-days "standard" site like LPF.
However... I have the classic (or 1G, if you're an Apple fan)  PSP, as well as Nintendo's DS Lite (also 1G  :p) and HTC's Kaiser cellphone (Mobile). None of them are satisfactory when it comes to loading a site as large and (relatively) complex, even when disabling Flash, images, etc.

Of the three, the DS, with it's Opera browser, is by far the best of the three, the PSP being (by far) the worst. Surfing w/o a stylus or KB is simply a nightmare... . The Kaiser was somewhere in between the two, having the smallest viewing space and encountering an error* on every page of LPF (presumably associated with an advertisement).

*Error: "This page requires AC_RunActiveContent.js"

Attached, a pic of the three in action*. Note that I had to turn off all options on the PSP and it still had an "out of memory" error loading this thread, despite all goodies disabled  ::) The DS, on the other hand, managed to load all pics w/o putting up a fuss (but just like the other two,  It took too much time).

*You can find a larger version here, along with my other laser-related pics.
