Re: Forum Competitions!

These things being considered, I guess a "suggested donation" should be asked for from the entrants.

Re: Forum Competitions!

That might be the most fair SBA. People can always donate more if they want  Although it shouldn't affect the voting.

Re: Forum Competitions!

Wow. I've missed a lot.

I'm going to make the competition thread now with all the information and suggestions I've gathered from this thread so far.

I think competition two should be about the most DIY laser. Not the biggest and baddest, just the one with the most work put into it and less premade parts bought.

Points awarded for:
1. How much of this was created by you (main factor)
2. Amount of work put into it
2. Uniqueness

It has to be unique. Making your own heatsink for a C6 isn't going to win this, even though it was diy.

Having good tools doesn't mean your DIY is better either. If you used ingenuity and made something without the proper tools that just adds to the DIY nature and you get some bonus points.

Its viability as a laser isn't all to important. Of course it has to actually be a laser, but if someone for instance built their own hene doing all the glasswork, winding their own HV transformer, building the driver circuit, etc. and it was a huge system that hardly worked they should win even though another persons laser "works better" because it is >3W and handheld.

Also I'd give a longer timeframe for people to get entries in for this contest.

I like those points and the longer timeframe. Would allow for more entrants and bigger budgets. The limit of 10 in a poll is kind of a bummer too.

Agreed that the limit of 10 choices for a poll is limiting, but there is an easy solution, Just open an new thread with the voting only were the OP is all the options and you JUST post to give your vote.
If everyone respects that than the poll can be done easy, obviously it isn't automatic but it's just a matter of counting the votes.

As for the longer timeframe I agree 100%. I couldn't submit my laser because I had some parts comming in from the USA and got stuck in miami for one whole week. So there was no possibility for me to do anything, and I wasn't going to submit a laser that didn't have my personal touch.

Posting votes would be transparent no disputes, everybody who wanted to could count although people who want to be anonymous could still use the poll or PM Gun. Still looking forward to seeing your build Norbyx

Wow I guess I forgot how to count! And its quoted so its still there even if I edit haha

Next time we could do the voting through an external site. There are plenty of free survey making websites we could use.

Very good idea benmwv, I think using an external site is a very good option :).

I think I'm actually going to use an external polling website so the votes can be more easily tracked, and so I can have more than 10 options. But as I've said in the thread, it's encouraged to explain who you voted for and why you did so :)
