The new forum looked fine to me - and felt slightly snappier when browsing. The adverts are currently looking funny and shifting the layout, though. I remember seeing an article regarding clickthrough rates on forums - apparently registered users click much more rarely than casual passers-by. I'll see if I can find a link for you - it had some nice information about effectively advertising on forums.
hey guys yeah the other server is not a live mirror. this weekend i might move everything over though and go live.
thx for feedback about ideas to improve advertising effectiveness, had to delete a post tho b/c certain things about advetising are against the advertisers ToS to discuss
i am going to move a new backup to the test server and will have it back up soon
It is a bit outdated, but I think that the core concepts it shares are the same. Also, one effective spot for advertising is inter-posts, though this targets your "superfan" user base, as is described in the article. It's an interesting read (though sadly I didn't manage to implement it before one of my/my friend's forums died of neglect).
EDIT:
This page (the last post and the thread it links to also) also has some useful tweaks, but might annoy users, and so I'd put a poll up and ask first: http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum89/12207.htm
Hey c0ld, everything seems to be working great! I am seeing the post.
Smilies, changing profile settings, editing messages, attaching images and sending PMs all working :gj:
Only thing I can see is that the Google ads have pushed the main LPF logo to the right, while ads were before to the left and right of the logo.
There is a little donation coming your way tomorrow.
Keep up the good work!
