I agree that censorship should be kept to a minimum - ban/delete posts of trouble causing members but don't delete the discussion threads. I don't know why people are getting so upset over having a discussion thread. Advertising it may be, but all companies should be allowed to have their product discussed.

But it's a predominantly off-topic thread in the 445nm laser forum. Even when the conversation was about the Arctic, it was usually only about side-topics related to the laser: when the product-that-happens-to-be-a-laser would ship, the lies of WL, and about other members and their complaints/complaints-about-complaints.

Now, since we've tolerated such banter, people are continuing this kind of discussion in the new threads. It's not the WL Arctic that is the problem so much as the people it attracts. I recall witnessing two new accounts being made in that "so I guess I won't post photos" thread exclusively for the purpose of arguing with other people. These are the same kind of people who are whining about the moderation as if they have "rights" on the internet. We don't want "discussion threads." They attract general, lame, off-topic "discussion." Specific threads are fine, but when you have people given the freedom to yak about whatever the hell they want, which includes trollery and other forum degeneracy. Give an inch, they take a mile.

Look at how much the forum has been cleaned up since that thread has been closed, and its tainted offspring eradicated. The current thread about the Arctic G2 is no longer inundated by all the inane banter of the Arctic/tards, mostly because so many were excised from the forum in the last few fail-threads.

What I'd like to see is any product-specific discussion moved outside the general laser forums. Talking about the latest switch on the host of a 445nm laser isn't really "445nm" discussion. There really isn't a dedicated forum section for specific products either (and who knows if we want it), but I just hate having the forums polluted by predominantly off-topic posts (there's a forum for that!).

How would you feel if they just posted about the arctic in the off-topic section? There's a 3 page long thread there about "sex with eggs"

Well, at least, "sex with eggs" IS offtopic, for a laser forum ..... (except, maybe, if the action involves a "dilda" laser ..... :p :D)

But no one is fighting about the sex with eggs ;)

Fighting generated in one thread does NOT stay isolated in that thread

The drama generated in the Arctic threads spread throughout the rest of the forum. The last three bans I had to do (which included veterans) dealt specifically with a fight that spread across three threads as the combatants followed each other around. In addition one account was created just to jump into the middle of the fight to troll it

When you have a honey pot, the bees don't just sit on the pot, they fly all around it as well

Have you not looked at it today? As soon as i got up this morning there was a few posts already trickling in about "I'm new here, just thought i'd give you n update on my g2, the money was taken.." -it's a vicious cycle, and it won't be fully eradicated until the arctics are done, until each and every drunken frat boy and 12yr old kid that cried to mommy gets it in their hand. The others make great points, it's just something we'll have to continue trudging though.

-and i'm sure wicked is terribly sorry for all the trouble being caused everywhere due to their dirty, lying, cheating ways... [/sarcasm]

<sigh> Not yet <sigh>

I try to always start my day off on a positive note

It's not just the people. It's the topic.

Jerry

There are more people on the "temp ban" list right now than I have ever seen on it

I vote for an arctic board. Stop all the temp bans and let the crap roll. Live and let live. This forum is out of America. What the heck happened guys, everyone is acting like a bunch of old guys.(I know some of you are old guys but that's not the point). If arguments are started fuck it, who cares it's just the interweb, "Sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me"... unless you have a vagina.
For real guys lighten up. From what I've read from Avery he would probably say the same thing.
And Avery made the top header long ago. We should at least think about it, It is on the top of every page.

Did you not read post #36 or do you just not believe it. Very few people are actually like you. People do NOT "live and let live" and the fights do not stay in one place.

Also, I would posit that you are incorrect about c0ldshadow. I believe that on an undesirability scale, he would rank fighting in the boards just below racism

If you think that it is just the mods in this, then you do not realize how we work. We respond to "reported posts" as well as our own jobs. MANY, MANY people report these fighting, trolling, and "wasted of space" posts to us.

Peace,
dave

I don't really see it as " waste of space". The people posting these "waste of space" post may become more safety conscious if they are allowed to stay awhile .
About the fighting goes back to sticks and stones. If it goes on for more than a month then everybody will know who the wiener heads are. All in all the fighting is really childish and if vets want to partake well then there you go. Most of these problem I believe can be solved with a Arctic board of its own, where the novice can grow with each other at there own pace and vets can add some scientific info for the rest that would like to learn.

I'm just saying the next laser genius could come from the arctic mess for all we know. Turning people away is a bad idea. It's kind of like when you send 10,000 people to jail but one of them did not commit a crime. That's to many in my opinion.

You completely ignored my question and comment about how you are different and the fights not remaining isolated. If a fight goes on for "a month" the entire forum would be empty of members more sensitive to drama than you. There are MANY more members who are sensitive to the drama than there are people like yourself that seem to be immune to it.

Also, your analogy isn't even close to being valid.

We are not "turning people away" and we sure as heck are not sending them to jail by the thousands. We are limiting the drama. The vast majority of bans have been short-term temporary bans just to give people a chance to cool off and learn to post a bit more responsibly

:wtf: are you talking about...
If you want to see fighting turn on your TV... or get drunk and
go to a bar and tell a biker he's a sissy...
You'll get a all the fighting you want...

It looks from your Avatar you already met one....

This Forum is about Lasers... I've already stated my dislike of
deleting threads but closing them because some "expert" Noobs
are fighting and Trolling is just fine with me...

And Banning the Fighting/Trolling Instigators is a MUST to keep
this Forum sane and on (Laser) track...

We don't need the Drama that you seem to be looking for as your
own entertainment...

BTW.... real macho....:yabbem:

I don't like the drama. I would just hate to turn derail a kid for being a newb posting about some arctic nonsense, that may come up with some cool new idea that no one else here has thought of.
I'm very laidback and that was my 2cents I'm done posting.

edit:I guess I need to start using emoicons, I guess what I wrote could have been taken as negative instead of just cracking some fun.
