Ok so i have only been here a bit but i have notice a few things, and thought I'd just post a quick Idea that i think would help out this forum and allow users a bit of safety from being scammed.

I have been a member of many forums and a few of them use this idea so this idea is not mine and dose come from seeing it used other places.

It seems Most people that come to scam people are new users who post stuff for sale and scams people. I would not mind seeing a the Buy and Sell area set so that you must have so many posts before you are allowed to make a thread, this would allow people to get to know who you are and shows that you are spending time on the forums.

the Other idea would be a Verified Sellers List, People that have Proven that they are True sellers and have title or something to show that they are trusted Members of the Forum.

Yes i know Even a Trusted member can turn into someone who scams, but most people that scam are new people who's first post is a Buy and Sell post.

I would like to see maybe a Post number of 25-50 Before being able to make a new Thread in the Buy and Seller Area.

What do you think? Vote on the Poll , Poll will close in 15 Days

I think this will be a good idea.

My thinking behind it is that it will discourage people from joining LPF for the sole purpose to buy/sell stuff. it may also be easier to see thier intentions once they have to build a post count of usefull stuff, rather then just spam posts that will give away that they are just trying to raise the count to post on the sale's thread.

Well, whatever you deside as a final set point regards the post count, those posts better be good and a worthy contribution in one way or another, not just the majority of it composing of spam posts and useless crap just to build up to said count.

More or less... a type of "probation" period so to speak before selling in that thread, so we know better who are we buying from, and what are thier intentions, and to find out if they are just a scammer looking to make a quick buck.

I realize there are expections to the matter, as old threads tell, but I think this will filter a majority among those.

I have yet to be ripped off online and i do alot of buying and selling online.

I can see benefits but some folks don't post much so they would take 3 years to be able to sell something, lurkers are ppl too :D

don't think i can edit the poll other wise i would put post count, but i would agree 200+ would be nice.

TheReddish: i do see your point as well, but i would say if someone really wants to be part of the LPF community and Sell on the site they should post and get to know people on the forums, it shows that they are here to stay,

this is what I have seen happen time and time again,

person makes account posts add, get's paid and close's paypal account,
person re opens paypal under new email, gets new forum account posts add and dose it again.

make someone post so much before being able to post would me that anyone who wants to scam would have to put time into the forum to do it, and most people trying to scam just don't want to take time out of there day to post

@FP, I know, I just stopped resisting it.. its pointless to fight back... I sit infront of it for hours a day anyway and it wont let me leave :cryyy:

@Scarlet, I suggest we leave this poll alone, and see if the idea itself will pass, then create a seperate poll should it pass and be considered bieng implemented, then worry about the post count minimum set point.
however, discussing the set point in this thread would be a good idea, just the seperate poll to deside as final.

I think the "verified" sellers thing is a bad idea - it suggests endorsement on the part of LPF, and I don't think that's good for LPF or its operators.

Regarding post count - if that's the requirement we go with (and it seems good to me), I would strongly suggest that we DON'T apply it to buyers too.

I wanted to purchase some batteries recently at CPF, registered a username, and honest to god I was so frustrated at the end of the day by all of their new user restrictions - even just to PM and browse various forums - that I left and never wanted to go back. I'm a pretty capable and reasonable human being (I think / hope), and at the end of the day, I just left *hating* CPF and never wanting to login again. In effect, their harsh hoops JUST TO BUY SOMETHING left me so annoyed that I would never put any further effort into being a part of that community, or purchasing from one of their sales threads (if I even could)

In other words, maybe restricting "FS:" posts makes sense (in fact, I think it does), but for heaven's sake, please don't put restrictions on "WTB:" or mere browsing and commenting/replying WITHIN "FS:" threads.

Follow-up:

Why not just add a feature to the Buy/Sell forum that adds a RED BAR across the top of each post someone with less than X number of posts puts up ANYWHERE in that forum?
(Put some text in the bar saying "WARNING: This user.... blah blah blah....take caution when dealing with them.")

That seems like a realy dumb idea to put restrictions on buyers, I knew there was a reason I never go to CPF.
lets keep it simple here ;)

I agree with that the post count thing would be for stating a new thread, anyone can post in a thread that's already started by someone who has the count to start it, but a new person to LPF would not be able to post a FS add until they post and earn the right to sell..

as for the sellers list I see your point there, and can agree that it might not be the best idea for LPF but I do really think the post count thing would be something good.

For anything to happen you have to find out if a plug-in exists for vBulletin. So do some home work, and present it to the admin (Avery). If everything seems fine, I'm sure he'll make it happen.

Why would anyone restrict buyers?

We don't have too many problems with that, anyway. It might end up causing more problems than it solved. I think it should be up to the buyer as to whether he wants to take the risk of buying from a newb.

And we already have a sort of "verified sellers" with the rep system.

I could do a 'Seller Review/Reputation Compilation Thread' if you want. Sellers could make it to the list after, say, 5 positive sales.

I don't have much time, but I think people who like the idea can help me expand it.

EDIT: I mean that people who approve of the idea can help me expand with MORE ideas and with how it could be done, but I don't mind managing it.
