If I'm not mistaken, Dave's saying what you guys said are supporting reasons for a banned members section

Nice, but all we were after was some sort of explaination, which is why we have this thread is it not?
Im not supporting the ban or am I against it, just curious as to why, when senior members are banned, either temp or perm, the community derserves *some* sort of explaination.....

I think what I'll do, is just start from rangedunits' ban, and then add any from then on, Going through and adding every single member would be time consuming and pointless, as most people already know what previous bans are for anyway.

This Thread is not questioning any ban in particular BOB...
This Thread is only to discuss if a Banned Members Thread
is a viable project...

@ kingdave....
I guess it never crossed my mind until I got banned...
You know... like someone else's problems never hit home until
it happens to you...
I had a lot of questions as to when.. where.. why.. and who...
A Thread like the Banned Members Thread would have answered
those questions...

You mean like instead of having the door slammed in your face with no warning, no explanation, no way to even read comments, and no way to respectfully debate the points of contention in a section only those interested in drama would go to, with an intelligently dispassionate judge/moderator/scorekeeper?

And you're a professor of communication?!?:eek::gj::thinking:

Which means that I am very good at obfuscation when I need to be. If you and others were bewildered, then I did my job well.

< exhibit #4 >

It is my belief that a "banned member" board will simply lead to even more drama as people want to know "Why?" and/or try to publicly defend or prosecute based on their own knowledge, beliefs, and feelings. It will simply lead to more of these kinds of questions. It will lead to members "rallying" their friends to argue for the unbanning of their friend and the similar "rounding up of the troops" on the other side.

This is one of the main reasons why ban polls were eliminated. We wanted to remove such drama from open forum. NOBODY was happy with the way they were going.

Even simply requiring the admin to "explain" will become unwieldy. People are not satisfied until their own particular question is answered to their satisfaction. The biggest problem with that is that each member can have a different question that they want answered.

True democracy is a wonderful ideal. However, it does not actually work in practice. Luckily, online forums are not a democracy. I am not the be all and end all. I am just one experienced voice.

Peace,
dave

**EDIT** < Exhibits #5 & #6 below > You can "feel" the drama rising as the thread progresses

Here's a link to a controversial banning, to start it off. Y'all asked for it!

The Banned Members Thread should be closed after adding new info..
It is not a Discussion Thread of any kind... simply an info Thread open
only to the Admin and Mods....

No... that that is all fine... but when you get back at least you will know why...
It's funny I haven't whined about being banned... I let it go....

The drama won't be in that thread. It is closed. It will be placed in threads such as this one is becoming and/or via PM's, emails, and/or laserchat. It will rise until it spills over into the open forum.

If it's not very clear to the true majority of those visiting ALL the sections of the forum, I don't think banning is ever justified. Except when there's obvious and flagrant disregard for the Terms of Use (like, ahem, minors being here:eek::shhh:). If people fight, move it to the "boxing ring" for them to duke it out there. Someone should be there to keep it on point without taking sides, and to keep score.

Then maybe we should close the whole Forum... Just in case
something may spill over...

Can you "feel" it? Can you feel the tension rising?

People are arguing for the "right" to fight it out until they personally are satisfied with the outcome.

I rest my case.

myself a glass of red wine...

I'm not fighting with anyone....

It's all about staying on topic. I don't agree with a banned members list because the egregious ones don't deserve it and the others shouldn't be banned in my opinion. I only brought up the issue I did as a good example of what Dave's saying. And about "letting it go", read my rep.
