Some of us are trying to convince Sam to honor PL and lpf with his presence as a VIP guest Aug 19-21 in Newton NC at 2011 SELEM.

also if his being there may make you more inclined to attend.

ps plz dont embarass yourself by asking who he is.

let google save you from a red facepalm.:na:

mods-plz help me set up the voting thing ( as if ANYONE would NOT want to meet Da MAN!!.):thanks:

I might try and make special arrangements to get down there to meet him, if he comes.

Or, you all should stop by Blacksburg on the way down for free lunch/dinner/whatever. :D

While there exists a lot of laser brainiacs in this world IMHO DrSam has to be one of the nicest.

Many yrs. ago I saw a HeNe on eekbay and even tho I figured Sam would be way too busy to help out a boobnoob like me, I sent him a link to the listing-AND to my surprize he got back to me very fast. He not only looked at the listing and told me what he thought , went the extra mile and found some better deals on similar Gas lasers and a link to where, if I got the tube and PS seperately I would be getting a better deal. And he never tried to get me to buy anything from him even tho he had lasers and PSs FS. I have never forgotten his kindness, and thru his on-line sites info there has been so very helpful over the years.(got a question for him??- BE SURE the answer is not already there for you to find PLEASE)

I please ask that anyone who has been helped by Sam, post your thoughts here.

We may get him to come to SELEM and I would like to send him a link so he can see how many are in his debt. Even if you cannot attend SELEM -let Sam know how much appreciation the laser community has for his work.

IIRC the very first tut ever done about harvesting a BR diode was done by Les Wright(Scotland) and appeared in Sam's Laser site.

I wrote Les via Sam about how to clean dirty optics in Argon lasers- They made a photo heavy tutorial to answer me and it is available at Sams. Les had to take his Argon apart just to show me how to do it.

SO... if you have some kind words for Sam- put them here. I will be sure he reads them.

Thanks for reading this thread.

THanks---

I will, Zack, but want to first get a headstart here. I have already PMed Adam et al about this. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Now I am even more disappointed that I cannot make it back there.

Meeting Dr. Goldwasser would truly be an honor.

I cannot get free for SELEM :(

I will be at NWLEM.

Peace,
dave

I can't make it over the pond, but I would love to meet mr. Goldwasser one day.
Actually I wouldn't even know what to talk to him about, I guess I'd just like to watch
him work on some big laser rigs, or listen to some kind of lecture he could be giving.

People sometimes refer to his Laser Repair FAQ as the online laser bible.
Since he wrote it, what does that make him?

I thought so...

For all the attendees, I hope he makes it!

If he does come, and does say something, through either a speech or lecture, please someone record it because I would LOVE to watch.

^^^WOW! those are the kind of posts I expected to read- :D:thanks::thanks::thanks:

I will give a few more days for others to post then will send Dr SAM a link.

ATM we are just hoping to have him there.

To have him as a guest speaker would be even more awesome but that part of his attendance is up to Sam. The budget for SELEM gets pretty much eaten up by the cost of the venue, the shirts, food etc etc(Venue--$ 3000 this yr)

Guest speakers generally get a nice fee plus transportation-meals and lodging, so.............
for now we are just trying to have him there.

Right now we have Sam considering the offer- the lodging is covered and some of the meals. A few, including, MarioMaster have offered a ride one or both ways. (TY Alex!)

As classes will have already begun for Professor Sam. He will most likely not be able to give up more than the weekend. I have wrote him that we will do our best to pick him up and get him home in a timeframe that will fit into his schedual.
^^^edit/update***I have since learned that Dr Sam is now retired from teaching at UPenn. I hope this means he will be able to attend.

Donations to help with this will be accepted and appreciated. We could use some $$ for his lunches and a dinner or two.

:thanks:hak

Anyone wishing to donate a dollar or two to cover Sam's dinner at Zambra's may PM me- I will get a card and add everyone who donates name to it. This would be a very good way to thank Sam for the 17 yrs he has been helping us with invaluable laser data/info. We need to wait until he confirms of course.
