GreenBeam, I appreciate very much what you are doing, but I hope you don't get your
hopes too high for making a huge sale here.
To 90% of users in this forum, ~50$ is the most they've ever spent on a diode
(12x BluRay, 1W 445nm), and those diodes have alot of power.

I don't think everybody will be ready and willing to pay ~100$ for a "red" diode
that does ~200-300mw, there are the always popular LOC diodes off of 10$ sleds for that.
Sure it's a different kind of red, but remember, this is the "balloon popper" forum :)D),
and many many of the members are more interested in raw power than anything else.

who was buying Dr.Lava's selected RED 150/170mW Diode for ~100Euros?

I'm sure he didn't waste his time with the sales, or profit, even though small.

I'm not trying to sell 3000 diodes, I don't even care if I sell 30
I was just doing it to let the ones who did want them, have them again.

YEAH, some profit is made, but that's not the driving force, for the
reasons YOU stated, not many people here are going to want to spend
that much for a pointer diode.

But, someone who wanted a higher quality oriented part, could get it.

Sure there are many who like the beam, or are building a projector, but I honestly
don't think there are more than one or two dozen diodes to be sold here..... :(

I hope I am wrong though and you can offer a price that is interesting enough to
many members, not just the hardcore 15~20 members. :)

That all depends on how nit-pickie you all are, and how much you WANT to spend for a better part.

This company also has parts costing near 1000US$ in 100 quanity, want one?

I thought the selections were a happy mid-ground between
a diode costing 3 times more, and one from a corner hobby supply shop.
And there are others besides red, using the IR's can create them.
No one has direct color green or blue yet, if they do, they're costly.

HEY, I can always go away ... just let me know!

I never said you had to get anything, I'm just offering a chance to get it,
for however many want it.

I'm beginning to wonder if all this is worth the typing....

get 3 samples or so.

I just thought of something...
unless the company holds the quote date while the samples are being sent,
the entire offer could go void while the diode is being tested.

OH... and, I'd be happy to get ONE as a sample :)
The manufacturer also pays for the shipping, usually, as a good will offering.
so asking for more than one each, of one or two parts, is maybe pushing it

They can think you just called them to get free play parts,
and not serious about a 1000 or more part purchase.

I was only trying to give you a perspective of what sort of business
you can expect from this here forum. I might be totally off though.

Like I said before, I very much appreciate your efforts of sourcing
an "exotic" diode for what we all hope to be bargain prices.;)

OK, ... I'm just under some personal stress with a parent near death, caused by a hospitals abuse, so ... I didn't mean anything either.

200-300mW of bright red is almost as bright as one watt of standard red! Who wouldn't want that?

I think the Nichia 60mW-80mW 488nm would be pretty badass. Excellent beam and dot visibility would be GREAT for poiters. Nice Teal/Cyan color too.

It would be visible like green but on the blue side of the scotopic... and without the inefficiency or IR leakage.

IMO, 488nm is alot cooler and more unique than 635...

This must have been what I heard, when I said, earlier, I wondered if 1watt of 635nm was as bright as 1watt of 532nm...
What I must have actually mis-understood was 1watt 635nm being almost as brite as 2watts of 650nm...

I just want to see if the application I'm using it for gives a better color (nicer color red) than the 650nm

I would like it a lot if the beam is at least visible at night. :p

I have a HeNe .5 mW (yes,... point 5 mW) and it's ~635nm ... It's plenty bright!! :D at night. :)

I agree, I'm going to ask if they also have smaller sample priced quantities of the latest wavelengths, but for now ... there's no mention other than they're working on something like direct color, but at this time they didn't go into detail.

that may happen later on as more applications call for that to be made, the price starts to drop, but when first introduced to the market, it's going to be expensive. ... The 445nm ones were going for 1,000US$ several months ago, until Casio started to require millions for their application (the projector everyone wants for the Laser Diodes) :)

You should see how much it really costs, each, in quantities of 1 million :D

Can we get a sample diode and get on this quick? we may lose out I just have that feeling.

don't worry, I'm getting some 300mW 635nm 5.6mm as well as 30mW ones,
along with most if not all of the ones in the poll, in smaller priced sample quantities,
based on the popularity of the polls results, so ....... everyone will have what they want.

Group buy HL6385DG 150mw, 642nm reds

He already has a cheap, good source. The diodes are very popular, since many people already are signed up for the group buy. This way, you are guaranteed customers and everyone gets the diodes for much cheaper. It's a win/win situation!
You can even buy the diodes though that group buy without teaming with him and it will work just as well!

While this may be a nice way to get a one time sale on a red diode, it's not going to get all the other sample quantities everyone else wanted. It took several months dealing with this manufacturer to get to that status consideration.

The manufacturer I'm dealing with now, has many different types, and is also wanting distributorships in NYC, ... it's nice Dave can get a small RED diode, or even maybe others, but, If I abruptly ignore this manufacturer at this point, I may never get the same chance again, later.

There's more offered here, by this manufacturer, than just a good price on ONE simple RED Laser Diode... this one also has, and is willing to sell, even the high-power ones, like 8 watts of 808nm in C-mount case, and others too... along with the FAC lens to focus it , ... on a steady basis... and if I am granted distributorship, it's a better deal in the long-run for everyone here.

Plus the fact, when other companies SEE I'm a distrubutor for another Laser Diode company, they start to look at my company with better pricing later on, regarding their own products.

The point is that all of the diodes your manufacturer offers are only useful to very few people here because of the complex optics and mounting required.. I apologize if I sound ungrateful; this is a fantastic initiative, but I'd hate to see it wasted..
A 8W C-mount sounds awesome, but in reality they are so unhandy, and require so expensive optics that only two or three people on this forum would buy them, and that's if you are lucky. The same goes for the 300mW 635nm, to some extent. I think everyone would rather have one good diode such as the 150mW dave sells easily available, than many they have no use for..

If you must buy from your manufacturer, are you sure they don't have any ~150mW 642-635nm's? They don't have to be perfectly single mode, but they'd be better than the flashlight 300mw one.

You make a valid point Grix, I'm not denying the other diode has it's benefits,
and it is still available in that group buy, if you want it that badly,
but at this point, I can't "shift sides" in mid-stream without really pissing
off this company, and for just one diode, I'm not going to risk that.

Also, as I mentioned earlier in this thread, I can not split the purchase.
Please understand, I'm not saying "go elsewhere", I'm just saying, it remains
available from that group buy... I can't join it at this time.

"My" manufacturer does have other lower power single-mode/element diodes,
and some are 150mW (i have to check to make sure) but are in the IR range
or 405nm lower power ones.

They also have "already built" modules (high and low outputs) in all nM,
with fiber coupled outputs as well, and the FAC Lens System for the C-mount diodes.
It's more of a range of products for a distributor to offer... it's also
possible, in the future I may stock some other companies products as well,
but several million for just one companies line is a big step, splitting that
among two, is not possible now.

this was why I started this poll, to see the range of customer demand,
and Grix has a valid point too, for later on in this plan.

This manufacturer informed me a 1 watt is now available in the 635nm
as well as already in 650nm parts.... C-mount and TO3 case.

I'm working on getting modules (host basics) for TO5 (9mm) diodes,
to pop the diode in, ... it may not even need pressing into place....
and comes apart in three places, for easy assembly of your laser basics.

I'd like to see if the machine-tooling magic-men here can get some ideas
for building a full host around these, and creating hosts for TO3 and C-mount diodes.
I may even commission building some, by them, in the future... for here. (later-on)

The attached .jpgs are similar to the ones I'm looking at.
These show as fully assembled with driver boards mounted.
