Wow that's awesome!
It's an action packed picture that is well more worth than a 1000 words.

Nothing beats the hardware of the 1DX. :san:

Thanks for sharing!

That football shot is a major wow. It could be one of those motivational posters, with the right caption. What a great camera.

That is a good shot. The 1Dx makes my 7D a noob camera. :)

For maximum hilarity, I put a Nikon D1x strap on it. A D1x strap for the 1DX...

Haha, that is hilarious!

Any insight behind why you did that? Just for fun?

Well, for the fun of it, but also because the D1x straps are REALLY nice. Those straps were made in 2001, back when camera straps still had real leather components... ;)

Oh the good days...

I use a Nikon in a Canon camera bag, so my pals are slightly surprised when I take my camera out too.

Siorry for double posting, but that brings up a question:

Have you been using the Nikon D1X previously? If so, what made you change sides?

Cheers!

No - the D1x strap came out of the paper's gear cabinet. We have a pair of D1x's that aren't used anymore.

I used to shoot a Nikon D7000 though. About a year ago, I started to explore the idea of moving up to a pro body, since I had three or more seasons of football left to shoot. I was originally going to get a used D3s or perhaps a 1D Mk. III.

...then the 1DX was announced. I really wanted to go full frame, so it came down to stretching to afford the 1DX or staying with Nikon (D3 or D3s, at that point). Once the D4 got announced, I originally planned to buy one - even went as far as preordering one.

I agonized over the decision. At that time I was planning on spending around $10,000 on pro gear (a number that's since inflated to about $17,000 with the addition of the 400 2.8 and an extra body). That's a huge investment - I really wanted to make the right call. I liked the Nikon system a lot, but the 1DX and the Canon system seemed really attractive.

I went ahead and preordered a D4, but still agonized over the decision.

So, I did what any sensible BIT major would have done - I made an excel sheet. I listed all the criteria that were important to me, weighted them, then scored Nikon and Canon. I divided it into two categories - an ecosystem score (for the whole system) and an individual body score.

I ran through it a bunch of times over the next couple weeks. At first, the D4 edged out the 1DX, but the Canon ecosystem proved to be the best. I kept re-evaluating my scores to try to eliminate bias, and Canon ultimately scored the highest in both categories.

That was a pretty solid indication that, based on my own criteria, switching to Canon was the best decision.

And the rest is history.

I just picked up a Nikon D800 , with a 35mm DX VR and a 18-55mm lens DX VR . I am new to DSLR but I am excited! What are good settings for action shots and whats good for "everyday" quick shots with clarity? I have tried many iso settings but i cannot get the right settings..

Wow, congrats! Just wondering, why did you get a DX lens? You won't be able to use all of the awesome 36MP sensor.

I use A (aperture) mode all the time and keep the ISO low outdoors and in indoors, at about 400-800. My old D90 deems to do get the job done. :)

They came as part of the deal, But yes I need a couple good FX lenses. At those ISO , my hand is just not steady enough yet.
