should offsides rule be removed in soccer?

i personally think its stupid

It's FOOTBALL... and no.. then there will be no skill involved.

I do not understand "offsides" in futbol or "iceing" in hockey.

Of course I still think that basketball players should still be wearing "shorts" to play too :tinfoil:

I personally think that the rule is fine how it is now.
The thing that bothers me is that it isn't always correct done/seen by the refs. And it's stupid that FIFA still doesn't allow technical help so they could see if it was offside or not
In almost every other sports they are now using replay helping the refs, hell even in the traditional Sumo in japan
Only in football the ref only decides... France wouldn't even be at the WorldCup if they could've used replay

Its made that way because of abuses.

Offsides makes sense to me, brings in a little more strategy, makes both strategy and physical skill count for more.

Do you understand offsides in hockey?

Hockey and soccer offsides are almost the same. In hockey, the puck has to be across the blue line before any offensive player can be across the blue line. In soccer, instead of having a blue line, the "blue line"/offsides line is just wherever the farthest back non-goalie defensive player is standing. It's a moving blue line that is pegged to whichever defensive player is closest to the goal line. Hockey handles it a little differently as far as what happens when the puck leaves the offensive zone, making it a bit more complicated, but that's the rudimentary idea.

Icing is basically a delay of game penalty. If a player shoots the puck towards the other team's end and it crosses 2 red lines (the center line and the goal line are red, but the offensive zone line for offsides is blue) without anyone touching it, as soon as a non-goalie defensive player touches it, it is icing. The player shooting the puck to the other end is trying to delay the other team and waste time by shooting it down there, so the puck is brought back to his own end for a face-off as a penalty. If there were no icing, it would also be a strategy to shoot the puck down to the other end to allow your team a line change, so an added penalty is that the team committing icing is not allowing to make a line change while play is stopped for icing. If it was a legit pass attempt that missed or if the team committing the icing is short-handed (penalty killing), then there is no icing, you're allowed to delay the game by just shooting the puck to the other end of the ice.

Tell that to that Detroit Tigers pitcher who lost his perfect game to an umpire's mistake a week or 2 ago, as well. Baseball = no instant replay = no perfect game for him.

I went to a game once. My brother tried to explain the game to me while it was being played. He didn't invite me again

Definitely not! Should the offside rule be removed then all it takes to score is for n number of players to stand right in the goal mouth and the attacking team to hoof the ball deep from their own half and leave no defenders between the goalie and n number of players. Yes tactics would then change but the end result would be all defensive palyers at the home goal line and all attacking players at the opposition goal line. It then becomes a contest of who can kick the ball furthest and a hack fest in the six yard box. Okay, things would evolve and that's a little over simplified but there's no art in that.

Mostly, the arguments for not using, 'off field', technology to determine offside or not is that it would stop the game too often and football should flow. This would not only lengthen and slow the gameplay but the sponsors really wouldn't like it. It disrupts scheduling and time their logos are on screen. There was another really good argument that I heard recently that made a lot of sense but I can't for the life of me remember it right now.

I think this rule should be removed because I think soccer should be removed. Bloody annoying game that causes traffic jams, riots, costs the country money that could be better spent elsewhere and, especially here in Glasgow, causes quite serious violence even amongst individuals.

Here in the UK, soccer is soma. Remove this rule by removing the game!

^ Sometimes the only time it's safe to go out in Glasgow is when Rangers are playing Celtic because at least you know where the hooligans are! :crackup: Remove football and there'll always be something else to get riled at.

There're always neds to spare. I've heard of them deliberately planning their crimes to take place on soccer days because they reason that the police will be busy dealing with the traffic and game...
