Seller/Buyer reputation system

After reading the post, what is your opinion?

I know that I'm no one here but, before talking to ave, I think I should gather info here.

People, what do you think about suggest to admin a seller reputation system?

Something like, the

reputation bars that we have under our profiles? Like yellow bars (to represent RMT, Reputation for Money Trading)? I've received negative reps before, but that does not represent me as a trader. I ship items on the same day (never sold internationally, tho), and pay they before shipping, so this could make me a good buyer/seller, and the people that sell/buys from me could +RMT me.

If I scammed someone, selled damaged items or stoled something, people could -RMT me, but I could still get some REP by helping on forums.

Obviously, when someone get a -RMT, half of the points deducted from RMT would be deducted from REP too.

This is just an idea that could be useful, I'm trying to help so, if it is a bad idea don't blame me please. :)

That's definatly a good idea. Sellers who get -repped for non-business related reasons should not have to look like a bad seller. No more "Oh, that guy has negative reps. He must be a bad seller." :beer:

I just think that the reverse should be true, tho.

"That guy has negative RMT so, he will have lower reputation automatically".

I can't think of a single case in the past where this has happened. Heruur to an extent maybe.

It is more likely though. I certainly wouldn't buy from someone who has demonstrated he is unreliable/disrespectful or most any other reason one would receive negative rep.
 
Also, this probably require a specific plugin for VB, have you considered this ?

I mean, reputation is an embedded function, but afaik i think it can permit only one bar, without heavy modifications and an independent database entry.

Good idea, I also thought of this. But IMO if someone is a jackass on the forums and has bad rep on the normal rep system I wouldn't buy from them regardless of their buy/sell rep. That's just me though.
 
Sometimes just like a misunderstood, the person could stop selling anything; because he/she could have posted eg ":toilet:" in a serious thread.

And, if he scams and everything, removing the Trade Rep, he should lose normal rep too, because who scams and similar, isn't a good person. However, who say some things that does not pleases everyone and gets a neg rep, could continue selling (attracting buyers) with a good trade rep, low 'forum' rep.

Sounds like an attempt to avoid doing ones own research.

"I don't want to search for myself and read. I don't want to be responsible if I get ripped off. Can't someone else just tell me who to buy from?"

It's your money. Figure out who you want to give it to. I say the more personal involvement needed in the decision process, the better.

Thats just an suggestion of improvement, not a way to feed lazy people, if it is that what you mean ;)
Sometimes the rep power can't represent the person very well IMO, in trades and helping in forum, etc.

Agreed. The rep power or rep number alone is not enough to know with whom you are doing business. The rep system is NOT designed to identify good sellers. It is a measure of personal reputation in the forum. It should not be used to judge who is worthy of your commerce anyway.

Get to know who you are doing business with.

Talk to others about them.

Read the threads that they have started and what others have posted in those threads.

Read what other threads people have started about them.

If they are new, we have a middleman process in place to protect both the buyer and the seller.

Don't rely on any computer generated system to decide where to spend your money.

Darklasers had a great reputation - - - For a little while ;)

Half agreed. I suggested something like + trade rep or - trade rep someone, not generated by computer.. and probably approved by mod (the + trade rep or - trade rep).. Some people could get lazy before buying, and rely on the rep system, or just buy without searching about the user neither using a middleman. Thats just my opinion, tho.

You are proposing a system by which a "number" is generated by the computer (based on user clicks) and that number could/would be used to decide who was a good seller or not, right? How is that any better than just looking at the current rep number? You still will not know anything about what the seller has done in the past. What if all the seller had sold before were batteries and you are looking at a custom built laser he built?

Read. The bad guys are identified fairly quickly and even good guys have problems sometimes.

An example of the system I suggested, is John (priceangels' owner), some people say that his 50mW laser is 35mW IR light. However, he gots a good reputation, but their products may never be 'up to spec'.
I'm not criticizing priceangels, but thats just an example.

This system wouldn't really do anything to effect dealers like Price Angels, DX, Rayfos, etc. Those are all re-shippers and/or drop shippers. The "quality" of the units is much more dependent upon the manufacturers and the luck of the draw for which unit you happen to receive. They do not make them.

All you can measure with these types of sellers is their customer service and return policies. If you haven't dealt with Chinese sellers before, understand that those two things can change with the wind. :whistle:

This system MAY be more relevant to private, custom builders herein or a small business owned by a forum member. However, as I have stated, I believe that this kind of info is already available in the forum in a more useful format.
