This poll like the other is to take to the admin and the mods to try to make things easier...

Should a person that is about to be banned, get a formal notice. and/or be let to face their accusers.

i voted yes to both. I also feel that if you are not willing to openly acuse somebody, then your opinion shouldn't matter.

Adding either of those "conditions/rights" will limit the speed with which the admin can deal with a problem AND cause people to be more reluctant to report somebody. Those two things will lead to an increase in the duration (and possibly the severity) of the drama before the admin can take action.

The actual "trolls" will learn to push it until they get a warning or, if there is a "conspiracy", each member can poke at the "target" until that one gets a warning and then the next member can take over.

Peace,
dave

I say the users have the right to be anonymous ... but a pre-ban warning wouldn't go astray.

Telling the banned user who voted to get them banned would just result in more drama.

with admin and 3 mods, I'm just curious why "Chip" is so darn interested in how the management run the show.

poll after poll......

Just let the guys who are supposed to run things run them.

LOL! The shine isn't even worn off of my new key to the executive washroom yet.

Let us settle in a bit to see how this new system all shakes out

Don't take me wrong, I have nothing against the Chipster, but just out of curiosity I went to his profile and clicked "find all threads started" and what I see looks like someone running for public office.

all I'm saying (my favorite saying) is "Relax and enjoy the forum"

The changes are happening, progress is there and it's already a better place for it.

this is a very interesting poll, i think its good to have it, but remember lets stay positive and focus on laser, no fighting here=)

i openly admit that sometimes i don't have time to give a long thorough explanation regarding fight evidence that led to a ban, but will try harder to describe more accurately the reasons

imagine getting home from work and having like 20 fight related problems to deal with. this could easily take 2 to 4 hrs of time if a detailed investigation about each fight was done but i don't have time for that. i do my best to read evidence of postings, and if it looks like people are being very negative and fighting, that is usually a temp ban. i never ban someone without any reason, there is always some investigation done to verify complaints are true. i would rather ignore a fight than ban someone for doing nothing if i was stuck between the two. however now that we have mods there is less ignoring and more being proactive, we are giong forward

in the last 2 days fighting is down bigtime though and overall i think we are going to see an improvement

hey photon. i get what you are saying but. i get ideas based off of what i see. and if i can throw an idea out that might help out, I will. Of all the threads i've created you are the first person to view them in a negative way.

and I am in no way telling anybody how to do a job. or run their business.

You need to get to know photonaholic a bit better. He rarely becomes negative. When he does, there is little subtlety involved ;)

The world cup is about to start...

How about yellow and red cards? You could even have an icon in the... in the... (What's the bit called with my Avatar in?). Two yellows and your off for a 2 match ban. One serious offense and it's an instant red, possibly leading to a season or lifetime ban. Something along those lines... ?

Seriously though, although I like my idea, a pre-ban warning should give someone a chance to calm down and, "Wind their neck in", as we say over here. It's likely they will already know their accusers so hauling them in front and asking them to be direct may not be healthy. If that's not enough to defuse things then a ban has to be implemented. Even if someone is accused and not given a warning, if the accusation is deemed groundless, then it may be politic to inform of that too. It would allow avoision of a known trouble area.

2 cents ain't worth a lot these days but that's mine.

I feel like if I got a ban notice, my reaction would be the same as just being outright banned. "Huh. Well dang." I'm not going to vote against it; this one I don't really care about - as bad as that sounds

I will, however, vote against the "right" to face one's accuser.

I view it in a curious way ;) far from negative. :)

Back on topic... I see it like the anonymous complaints to children services. any neighbor or relative with an axe to grind can file a complaint, next thing you know there is a social worker demanding to see your house.

Knowing who your accuser is can be harmful, but anyone with 1/2 a brain can sort out who it is based on the complaint made.

You guys know my side. I'm very upfront no matter what. I dont go for the background ban. I think you should be given the right to defend yourself, and know who is accusing you. Lets face it, most drama here is petty. If you have some clown trying to get you banned for no reason other then he doesnt like you, you should be able to defend your side. A lot of people throw stones in glass houses here. 3 times I was banned before it was investigated, or given time to defend myself. That's not fair, regardless if I deserved it or not. Maybe if we knew who was confronting us, it would give people a second thought before opening their mouths, and it would cut down on the petty complaining, and leave the focus on the more worthy issues.

All good points.

So far this is how it goes down...

If a bunch of complaints come in for Avery then he bans. If its discussed in a thread nothing much happens other than a huge fight that finds its way to other threads ( and other forums ).

Just got to change that. Hit it where it starts. Try to help each rather than to beat down.
