There is so much confusion to which lasers from DX have IR filters, which ones put out near the advertised output, and which of their lasers are stable. I have an idea that just might work to test out the DX lasers, and also give a bunch of the members a chance to win free lasers. Here's the idea:

At first the guy who takes over this idea raises the amount of money needed to buy as many of the DX lasers as possible with the money, also saving a little bit of the money earned for shipping to the winners. After the money is collected, the person running this buys all of the lasers suggested. After a year when the lasers come in, all of the lasers are tested with a power meter. Then, they are tested again with an IR filter. After that, the lasers are tested for build quality, beam quality, power stability, etc. The results will be recorded and stickied in some section to show everybody which lasers are good and which are IR spewing pieces of crap from DX, thus ending the never ending question, "What lasers from DX are good?"

After they are tested, they are raffled off. Everybody who bought a ticket has a chance at winning a laser. Even if a laser came busted, it will be still raffled off because many members here could find a use for a DOA green laser. Tickets would be around $5.

Obviously, the person running this would have to be a reputable member here (not someone that might scam us). That user would also have to have a power meter and know what an IR filter looks like :p .

So, what are your thoughts? Is this a good idea or am I just crazy?

i am very sorry but i have to say No.

my justification:
DX lasers apparently come in waves, i mean, you know about that pot that did nothing and the bad button quality? well they fixed that, they changed the circuit many times.

i am not saying your intentions are bad or wrong, but doing it would only be RIGHT for THAT wave of lasers, maybe the next one will just be worse (or better, who knows).

(all of this because DX is not "stable" with its lasers. on the other hand, nova & LG ARE stable (and even better) so you could review them forever).

going to a party, cya guys :)

I like the idea but Niko has a point. The quality of dx lasers seems to greatly vary depending on the batch of lasers. One month you might be getting great true 50s with IR filters and stable output. The next month you might get a bunch of IR spewing/mode hopping pieces of shit because the manufacturer decided to cut some corners.

You guys both have a great point point there. The only way to make this raffle work is if you did it every month, which won't happen. So I guess we won't be using this idea ::)
