Driver Section

Do you think there should be a section just for drivers?

Great idea! I think this would help out the noobs with deciding and can also be helpful for people making their own TTL drivers or LM317's!

Not needed. There's only so many drivers (2..3...4 if you count the olike bluray one), plus the RGB one from FML, there should be around 5 to 6 threads in the whole section.

Now, if you ask me "then where do all the questions regarding drivers go?" then I'll tell you "To the HELP section / experiments / repairs"

I agree with Niko,

It's not needed, there's so few drivers it wouldn't be worth discussing

And there is only the occasional DIY driver posts like once a month.

Well.. I'm not sure about your experiences, but when I first came to this forum, this was the first forum I was ever a part of. Being a noob and not understanding the structure of a forum, made finding info kinda tedious. I mean picking through threads for snippets of info takes time.

Now think of all the noob questions we get, how do I set the current on a flex drive? or what driver can I use with 2 AA batteries? or what is a driver? is a driver needed? I blew up my diode, what is the problem? All these answers can be found in the new section. It's really not only going to consist of this is a flex drive, this is a rckstr, this is a rayfoss... ect.

Frankly I found info on drivers hard to understand when I first started, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one. If you guys are too lazy or don't see the point of the new section, maybe you haven't payed enough attention to the noob posts or you don't see the impact this section can bring about. Heck yous all whine and complain that Kipkay is "infecting the pool" with this "no driver needed" attitude, but then you turn around and say why do we need a section that can help people understand the importance of a driver, and at the same time teaching people about drivers and giving them advise for which is suited to their application. I will be happy to make a few threads to help out the new guys, but input and cooperation is needed to get the best results out of this new section.

I still think this is a great idea. -Adrian

I agree. I think the driver section would help. I also found it hard to search through pages of posts trying to find a single diagram of how to make a test load. There are lots of noob questions regarding drivers and how to set the power.

I'm working on an über complete new FAQ to replace the old FAQ. That should solve the problem. This way all noobs can be directed to the FAQ.

Don't hurry me, though, I'll have to make it in January when I get some free time (yes, I'm studying right now too

).

The only reason why these threads dont work is you get 20 people giving you all kinds of opinions, another 20 hijacking the thread, and another 20 asking stupid questions. This is why I made the DIY group. Minimum debate, and links pointing you in the right direction. I believe this was why the FAQ thread was formed. And as you all can tell, not many people look at that. Hell even the DIY group only has 280 out of thousands of members and I used to send invites all the time to new members. No matter what, there will always be lazy people who will not take the time to search the answers out for themselves. Another good example is the acronyms. People still dont know what the difference is between sleds, and its all there. I dont think it will help, but if you need help let me know.

Maybe Niko can make a driver compilation thread weighing the pros and cons of the known driver. However I must also say that I don't feel that section is necessary.

The idea of a "section" is to consolidate information on a specific topic. Like what Niko is doing in his FAQ. The topic of drivers is a pretty simple topic and while currently there aren't that many drivers available, there are still a lot of questions regarding drivers and how to use, build, and install them. Using the search feature on something as broadly discussed as "drivers" will bring you results of pretty much EVERY SINGLE THREAD ON THE FORUM. I've yet to see a thread that at least didn't have some mention of what power the driver was set to, or which driver are they using... etc. This makes a search pretty much useless and therby leads a noob to posting nice little annoying posts like, how do I ...? This idea is a good one and has merit.

I will make the FAQ on January. A whole new, revised FAQ. It will include driver info which will eliminate the need for a "Driver Compilation Thread" (not needed since we only have 2 or 3 drivers).

Now wait i see you say 2 or 3 drivers. There a lot more if you include analog and ttyl right? not to mention the many ways to build them?
