Im quite happy with my .357 as a self defense weapon. The flash it gives off at night is quite dazzling and it makes a nice noise too :)
agreed-the sound alone is a crime-stopper :gun: I once fired a taurus .357 revolver in a semi-enclosed area with an earplug out (stupid idea) and that ear was ringing all day.

I've thought about this... and the only way you'll catch me carrying a laser as self defense is if it's this;
PHASR-phaser-rifle.jpg

The only thing close to that i've seen is H_Mike's portable CO2... Which is many KW away from being that^^^ :)

Please deleted this retarded thread....

If you are walking around at night, DO NOT expect a laser to save you.....

Any attacker hit by a laser will simply get more enraged...

For self defence, take up martial arts like kick boxing.

Also, peper spray would be FAR more effective than a laser.

That's basically the consensus here tabish... it's fun to hear how people defend themselves though, I vote to leave the thread up.

Basically I agree, but a very bright laser could be also used as a deterrent against stray dogs and, in my opinion, in a short distance could have the same effect of a pepper spray against people

If people start useing blinding/temporary blinding lasers for self defense then there just going to get outlawed, If you cant learn to use the choke hold or get a pistol permit I recomend a 300lm cree flashlight and a strong pepper spray because if you do blind someone with a laser, even in self defense, you could wind up defending yourself in jail for a very long time after the guy that you blinded who was giving you shit turns out too be an off duty cop that just had a fight with his cheating wife. With great power comes great responsibility, its up to us all to do whats right for everyones sake, and if you do carry a laser for ( dazzeling ) purposes make it a 50mw so you will be less likley to do permenant damage, also too use a laser for self defense you almost have too use it at some kind of distance and that could make it seem that you have it attached too a gun, this could be good or bad in the long run. it would be better to try and walk away and if your chased then point your laser at thier chest from underneath your arm and say ( back off or Ill shoot ) and continue walking away,
If you stand your ground at all you could be made out as some kind of terrorist in todays political climate, In short I suppose it would be better than nothing but it should be used as a stern warning while you flee and not to dazzle or blind lest you may find yourself walking along the same street when the guy you blasted gets you back aiming his rifle from behind wherever with his one half good eye, or you could be made out as the bad guy in court who attacked someone with your potentially illegal handheld terroristic blinding weapon who was merely asking you for the time of day or so they say. Point is you really want too give someone warning and attempt to walk away before you blast them in the eyes with a laser as a last ditch defense or you will look really bad in court and you will help bring about the outlawing/over regulating of our hobby.

I did a little kickboxing. It seems mostly for kicking people in the shins though, dont imagine it'd work in an actual situation. I've done shotokan karate for a few years. The fancy stuff in it like back kicks wouldn't do much unless your target it standing still, but the basic stuff is very effective. Nice efficient blocks/deflections, good use of body weight/leg strength/waist strength in the counter stroke.

I carry my BrushFire C3 445nm with me ALL the time and if I thought it would help I would use it to defend my self or any one else.
445mW of 445nm defocused should slow just about anybody down, if nothing else it might make them stop and wonder if a taser was next on the agenda.

Gotta disagree with your choice there, Flaminpyro. Green is the king for dazers. I carry a pen-style 50mw greenie putting out about 100mw. A WL focusing cap gives a nice fist-sized spot at 10 feet. Makes it hard to miss. Then after I've dazed the bad guy, I RUN LIKE CRAP :yh:
