i can just imagine you smoking weed

sorry if that was inappropriate :shhh:

Hmm.. Erm... I don't recall officer:shhh::p

Actually not something I've done for a while. If it was legal I suppose I would do it a lot more since it does help fall asleep very well, but as it is, I just don't need the hassle, and besides, with my drinking I need at least my lungs to work.

Yep, your odds are best to always be situationally aware and try to avoid confrontation. It sounds like you have to walk a few scary streets so just be ready. I mention Pepper spray because life isnt always like a hero in a action movie slaughtering all the bad guys.
You said," As for pepper spray... Does it work? I'm sort of skeptical about it."
Well, squirt a little up in the air and see how it feels. Cops use it, It even works on Grizzly bears so..One blast of it and It blinds and neutralizes the bad guys, lets you get away, and you dont have to be the hero fighting hand to hand combat guy where you may be up against someone a lot bigger and tougher than you or fighting more than one guy. Why risk your life if you have a smarter plan? Or as the thread starter might do, pull out a laser , thats fucking funny.

Yes. But than most of my friends consider me paranoid for having a knife and a flashlight in my pockets at all times.

Regardless, you're better off running away...

Yep. I don't leave home without my knife and flashlight in my pocket.
I also just got my Sunwayman V10R flashlight in the mail today, so I'm pretty happy :D

^^^How well does it handle the heat on max?

That's the biggest problem I have with my current edc... great throw, and plenty of power, but gets too hot to hold after about 5 minutes.

I wouldn't recommend it to someone who uses a high mode constantly like that. It's a compact light, very compact at ~22m diameter, 84mm length with a single cr123a, or a 16340 like I use. A light that small with that much output is mainly for low to medium high use, and max output when you need it for a few minutes.

For you, I would suggest an 18650 light, and browsing around CPF + GoingGear.com video reviews for hours finding the perfect one for you. It sounds like you like a lot of output for long periods of time, and the only sensible option would be an 18650 light with more mass. There are a bunch of good lights now that use the larger cell, but also manage to stay very pocketable, such as the ZebraLight lights.

It's something you are going to carry with you every day. To find something in the dark, to light up the area you're walking to know what's around you, to see what's wrong with a friend's car when they don't keep a light in their glovebox, etc. The uses are many. I know that you know this, but it just helps justify really being sure of what to get for your personal flashlight.

Ok, the pepper spray is on its way. I asked my chemistry proffesor about it, and we had a little look at its effects on eyes an lungs. Nasty stuff! And not a bad range. Honstly, I fully expect anything I hit with this to be unable to follow without falling over its own feet. This is as close to a shotgun as I can get and still be legal :D

Hmm, yeah, I'm gonna research my next light a bit.

I spent many hours going through the photos of that other website you recommended... fonarevka, iirc.

I allways carry an ultra-fire 502B with me. I was extremely impressed by the fact that it makes an ultrabright dot at up to a hundred feet or so, while still casting enough light around it to iluminate large areas at close ranges.

If you want pepper spray, get this stuff:
http://www.amazon.com/Sabre-Magnum-...=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1327260521&sr=1-8

If the pepper misses, but you tag them in the chest, the CS gas will make them tear and gag anyways. DO NOT spray indoors, unless you have a QUICK exit.
I got some on my hand a few years back, and the back of my hand burned for around 13 hours- cocoa butter, soap, all useless. I'd hate to take a spray to the face.

Air tasers are very effective IF both probes strike. My retired cop buddy said no one can keep muscle control with the new X26 model and a good hit- you just fall liek a sack of potatoes.

Here in CA, it's a felony to carry a baton, and only a misdemeanor to (illegally) carry a legal firearm. Go figure. Pepper and tasers are legal, and non-lethal weapons IMO are a good fire-first, ask questions later item (especially for women).

Watch your ass get a beating, your toy stolen, and you arrested for having an illegal laser in Australia.

^and sued for everything you own by the guy with "hurty eyes"... Buy a real weapon, weather that's a gun or a samurai sword is up to you. Until the 25th century when you can buy a "phaser rifle" at Dicks sporting goods, use a kinetic force to f*ck up your opponent.
