I just saw a commercial, (I can't find a Link to it Yet) I'll link it when i find one

If has Every Race of Man Each one comes on and they say:

("(I don't like it when people call me "---" )")

Or something to that effect and the "---" is the race word for each one of them.
(( funniest think is a white guy say the word "Kite" and personally I have no Idea what that means and why it would be bad but this is a side issue and not the point of this thread.....But if someone knows I'd like to be informed

Then a Mentally Handicap person comes on and says " And you shouldn't call yourself or one of your friends Retarded when you make a mistake"

Ok for #1 I understand you shouldn't call them Retarded. It is mean (personally I still can't Not do it Inside my head and make a few noises inside my mind...but I'm working on that ) Really I Am!

But To Compare The Word "Retarded" To Racist Words that have Cultural Meaning. These Words were meant to make another Race that is EXACTLY the same as yours Biologically, Sub-Human or lesser a Word Created to Demean.


IM SORRY BUT The Definition of Retardation :
is the act or result of delaying; the extent to which anything is retarded or delayed; that which retards or delays.

If you look up the other words they Claim to be the same you get the idea I'm talking about

I learned a few months ago that there's a group that wants to change "mentally challenged" to "intellectually disabled".

George Carlin summed it up pretty good in his stand-up bit about euphemisms. It's all just pretty ridiculous.

Well you do have a point with that definition. It seems pretty vague that they even used "retarded" to describe a metal handicap. Like "oh, this word means slow and delayed" we should label people with it!"

Calling some one a "retard" in my book is completely different than calling them by a racial slur. Both i think are inappropriate but other than that they are completely different.

Whether it is a racial, sexual orientation, or handicap slur, they are all the same. They are terms usually used in a derogatory manner by intolerant (or ignorant) people. Stupid commercials like this one may help 1% of young kids think twice before calling a transsexual Jewish intellectually disabled person a "Gay, Retarded Kike" :yabbem:

The words, even if done in jest tend to be offensive to the one that they are directed at. But the real test is what the intent of saying the word is and whether there was evil intent in saying it. George Carlin could say them and test his right to use the 1st amendment clause in the U.S. Constitution, with a combination of pushing the envelope and providing entertainment. I'm also not a believer in PC however, because it coins all kinds of nonsensical words. (JMHO)

Words are meaningless until you assign meaning to them inside your own head.

It doesn't matter what the person saying has in their mind.

It only matters what YOU decide they mean.
