Wow all the years of school and education for their marketing experts finally show, huh?

"You know, if we didn't do THIS particulary stupid thing which isn't even benefiting us in any way, the number of potential customers would increase from nobody to some 6-figures. Now to still solve the problems of actually making some quality games for it, because apparently people don't want to watch TV on a $700 game console."

Your Feedback Matters ? Update on Xbox One

Last week at E3, the excitement, creativity and future of our industry was on display for a global audience.

For us, the future comes in the form of Xbox One, a system designed to be the best place to play games this year and for many years to come. As is our heritage with Xbox, we designed a system that could take full advantage of advances in technology in order to deliver a breakthrough in game play and entertainment. We imagined a new set of benefits such as easier roaming, family sharing, and new ways to try and buy games. We believe in the benefits of a connected, digital future.

Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One.

You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you. Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world.

So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:

An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions.

These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.

We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds.

Thank you again for your candid feedback. Our team remains committed to listening, taking feedback and delivering a great product for you later this year.

Good for them to realize that and correct their mistakes. No one wants to be locked down. I'm guessing that the lack of pre-order sales and all the complaints probably tipped them off... duh...

Sounds a little too good to be true, IMO.

Well they're only doing what Sony did from day 1.

Not that unbelivable, especially compared to PC platform and gaming there. Majority of the games depending on clouds such as Steam, Origin or Windows Live let you play the game offline no problems (permanently).

I can't be expected to believe that there are seriously [Number of Xbox's sold] employees tasked with listening to what you are saying 24/7.

This same gap in logic applies to every single "THEY'RE LISTENING TO US" paranoic concerns. Who? Who is listening to us? :D

It's either millions of people tasked with doing nothing except listening/watching, or billions of dollars in processing power designed to do nothing else except process the unimaginable amounts of in-flowing data. It makes zero sense.

i agree it makes no sense that they'd listen to everything but its still the idea and thought that everything im saying or doing is being recorded and saved to their cloud. if that problem doesnt get address then count me out of xbox one. the game and internet thing were of no concern to me anyways since the games i buy i get on release day, basically just COD and GTA5 when it comes out. its always connected to the internet since its hardwired for online gaming so those things dont matter to me. i never sell games since you dont get crap for them when selling

i just dont like the idea that at any time, someone at Microsoft can tune into my system and watch and listen to me. how awkward is that for people who have their xbox in their bedroom and then do the "nasty" good show for microsoft, not good for the couple

So you go with "billions of dollars for storage space and processing".

If they are really doing that, their loss, because that money cannot ever possibly pay off, in any way, ever.

That's why I'd bet they're not doing it. Corporations tend to love money.

they can sell the information though. i think IGN pointed this out in one of their videos that it'd be stored and then sold to third party buyers. not sure if they'd keep the data forever or just dump when sold but just the idea of it kills me. i hpe they release word on this topic. i hate the kinect and dont have one just because IMO its a waste. they dont have any good games out for it now and even if they did a COD game with the kinect i think id still use the controller. i may try it out but try playing Kinect COD multiplayer or zombies for 2 hours standing and running in place......boring

I'm sure soon or later some heads will roll! Don't know why Microsoft doesn't listen to people...

Windows 8 -> everyone was scared about this ugly interface - and until today I haven't seen any big companies using Windows 8 at all!

And now, these guys doing the same with the new Xbox! It's a shame! Internet connection always??? Are these guys scared about software piracy? Wasn't it "piracy" which has made this company as big as it is today?

I dunno, it's all f**ked up, and I don't even a damn, I never did about console.

Again, I'll repost this pic from Page 1:
video_game_flowchart.jpg

Do you like games? Do you like modifying games? Tinkering with files, finding out how they work? Creating, sharing, and downloading mods, files, programs? Not to mention staying up to date with latest gaming technologies that consoles can't follow after their introduction year?

PC all the way.

I still have all the games I've bought over the years for that very reason. You could probably sell them for a decent amount if you sold it within the first 6 months after it was released.

Mine is hard wired but that connection goes away shortly after I turn off my HT AVR. The power strip I have senses the power increase when I turn it on. Then it turns on the other outlets. It helps keeps my stand-by power usage down.
