Describe your worst case of cabin fever? I'm going through mine now, I just want to jump out of my own skin that how much I'm itching for something to do.

Some incite of the severity of this cabin fever, I was actually EXCITED about packing up 10 sleds for someone, and an SMOC diode. I got so excited that I individually wrapped them each with static resist bags, then thick paper towel, and tape. All 10 of them. then labeled them to have more to do, and then wrapped the diode in a bag, put it in an anti static box, and scotch taped it, and labeled it. Then orderly put each type of sled in a group, and laid these groups flat in a ziplock bag, took out all the air, and then packed it. I did everything I could to extend the process and offer good packaging, and I was having a blast doing it because my hands have been without work for so many months. I also labeled the bag with it having 10 sleds, 4x PHR with diode, 4X without, 1X GGW, 1x 815, and 1 diode, 1x SMOC (red). I NEED something to take apart!

I truly have a never ending pile of stuff to occupy my time. The hard part is getting up and doing it most of it.

A good roll or two in the hay always works to take away any fever.

Go to a junk store, and recycle some products you like. I'm refurbishing 2 1920's antique hand crank 35mm movie projectors, 2 1930s 16mm silent movie projectors, and a 1900s post card projector. I'm also building a Frankenstein Jacobs ladder, and a plasma speaker that looks like its an old Victrola.

Not saying you should do these. They are things that interest me. But they all cost short money, and parts are cheap. Its mostly all labor.

There are a million projects for cheap money. Buy a couple of 2X4s and make a bench. Buy a gallon of paint and paint a room. Ect.

Go fishing, take a hike, bike ride, build a fire and grab a 6 pack ect. You dont need a pile of cash to have a good time.

like people have said not all hobbies have to be expensive even though most of mine are (lasers, fish keeping, etc). when im broke i can always still find stuff to do. go to goodwill and buy some shit to take apart. when i was waiting on the galvo group buy to complete i bought a clothes iron for 3$ and built myself a ghetto fog machine. take up a cheap project hell build a desk or take a trip to home depot and find something :p.

like TJ said build a fire. better yet build a nice fire pit in your yard split a bunch of wood and have some buddies over. there is nothing as relaxing as getting wasted with friends by a nice fire.

best advice is you dont always have to make the project expensive. i can build a table and spend a few hundred on materials or i can spend 35$ on a bunch of 2x4s and a piece of plywood.

EDIT* i must admit packaging things to send out is actually a ton of fun. benm and i bought some optics at the same time and when i was packaging his up to send to him. i thought it was so fun i individually packed every mount in a few layers of bubble wrap then i lined the entire box with bubbble wrap and filled it with packing peanuts.

Often times you can make something better than the crap you can buy at Walmart for around the same price. I'd rather have something of quality, that I fixed myself, then buy some Asian mass produced garbage.

not only that its allot more fun to make it.

some wise words silvershot has reminded me of MANY times has to do with this as many of you know i am in the process of building a projector a very very expensive project. he always reminds me its way more fun to slowly save up for each part and slowly put it together. than have all the money and buy a projector pre-assembled or buy all the parts at once. even though its annoying to have to wait to afford things. its a very true statement ;)
