Just my 2 cents. If your computer can take it, just go for vista. IMO XP has enough trouble as it is without all that stuff happening to it.
I haven't tried this yet, but am waiting for a new computer to put Vista Eternity on.. http://www.mininova.org/tor/1987902

i heard its a RAM hog that needs 3-4gb to run smoothly. I am however upgrading my pc to 3ghz+ dual core soon, but mobo has silly 2gb ram limit :'(

I'm sure that xp theme won't be nearly as impressive as vista... By default it won't be able to do the translucency effects, it won't have the fadeout animations etc... If you want something that looks as shiny or shinier than vista that will run on your outdated hardware, install ubuntu or some other flavor of linux that has the compiz rendering engine. (imo compiz's effects are overall way smoother and more impressive than vista's)... Otherwise, if your computer is *almost* able to run vista, and you want to stick with an MS operating system, check out Windows Server 2008... I've found it to be rock solid stable, and free of much of the useless bloat of vista... My laptop stutters on vista home premium, but win2k8 runs completely smoothly. You can download a 180 day trial directly from Microsoft. It means you have to format twice a year, but hey, it's free!

It's not a theme, it is a hybrid of both OS's so it has a lot of vista stuff in it (not just the theme), but still runs as well as XP. I love XP. I myself have never once had a problem with it. Really don't see a reason to "upgrade" to vista or anything else.

I have a copy of Vista installed but it is not my main OS. I have actually found XP runs things a lot better than Vista because of the amount of RAM Vista hogs. Crysis is one of them.

No, it's a theme. Read the torrent description. It says exactly what it's made up of... it's a theme, along with some sounds, wallpapers, and cursors. Vista's aero rendering engine is built right into the kernel. You can't just take parts of vista and throw them into an xp installation, it just doesn't work like that. There's gigabytes of vista specific code that are required for the GDI and GL composing layers, all dependent on one another.. Even if you did manage to get at vista's source code, as well as xp's, there'd be no way to integrate the two.

The closest thing you'll ever get to "vista running on xp" is vista itself, seeing as it's made using the components of xp. That torrent is just a theme.

my mom has a laptop thats like 2 years old... has an athlon 64 x2 and a gig of ram. when i first started it up, well 45 minutes after i did, i opened task manager which took an extra step, and noticed it was using 500 or 600 megs of ram just idle. i then installed xp and it went down to like 200. it also made doom 3 almost playable on minimum settings. about 4x the framerate as running on vista

after it messing up and a few trips to bestbuy (warranty ftw) they put vista on it again, and my mom hates it. this past week they've spent many hours waiting for it to install updates.

another friend got a new laptop which i put xp on, and they kept getting viruses so they ordered vista cds from hp (10 bux, since they dont supply you with them) it took 6 1/2 hours for it to install
and many more doing more updates and crap....

imo a theme pack for xp to look like vista is a good idea. but at that point you can look around through all the custom themes and find a nice one
