I will make clips from youtube videos for your avatars, I wont make the clips any longer than 8 Seconds, just send me a PM with a link to the video and i'll make it for you, although you must pay me in REP !!!

you know your avatar is over 8mb? as much as I like animated avatars, the huge ones can really bog down people's computers if they're on slow internet or have older computers

I think the gif i made for my avatar is only around 300kb

I got it down to 3.3mb without cutting any of it out. That's still enormous though.. I don't know if anyone's realistically still on dialup these days, but that would still take like ten minutes to download.

I have 1gb ram on this laptop, 128mb of which is reserved for video, so a 9mb avatar is taking up a full 1% of my ram. That's bad.

For reference, my avatar is 138kb and I still think that's sorta on the large end of what you'd want to use for an avatar... You might want to work on that.

I mgiht be able to make it smaller if I reduce the framerate, but thanks, if I cant make it smaller I will use a smaller clip or use yours.

Diachi what do you use for editing software?
i tried easy GIF Animator. it's nice, but im sure there are better apps out there.

firemylaser: part of it could be that you're hosting it on another server.. it took a full 5 min to download and I'm on a corporate T3 line.

Instead of linking to the file, try uploading it in your profile... hopefully that should speed things up.
Otherwise, if you think it's moving too slowly even after it's loaded, you can reduce the delay between frames with any gif animator program, or personally I use the gimp

well, right now you've just linked to the file on daichi's server as opposed to uploading it to LPF... it seems daichi's server is really slow.

what you want to do is right click on your avatar and hit save.. then go into your LPF profile hit modify, and go over to the "other" tab.
Now, get rid of the current avatar by unchecking the box that says "Select checkbox if you choose Personalized Picture blah blah" and delete the line of text that says "http://forumhost.ucoz.net/Gif_FireMyLaser.gif"... now hit save, and go back into your profile again.. (this shouldn't be necessary, but the board seems to choke if you don't do it the long way)

Now, once you're back in the "other" tab, check that box again, but instead of typing http://forumhost.ucoz.net/Gif_FireMyLaser.gif into the url box, click the browse button below and choose your avatar that you just saved to your computer.

as for changing the delay between frames, there are a lot of different free GIF editing programs out there, most of them have very few options.. one of the only options there is will be "delay". change this.

otherwise, if you'd like to try the gimp, it's a cool paint/photoeditor program that's free and really powerful.. you can get it from http://gimp.org

all you have to do is open your avatar in gimp, hit file, save as, click ok, then it'll pop up a box called "GIF Options" or something... here there's a setting for "Global delay" or something... this is the pause time in milliseconds that it waits between each frame of the animation. Set it higher to make your gif laggier and slower, set it lower to make it faster and smoother. You'll also have to check the box that says "always use this delay" or whatever.

My server is quite slow, you can use any other host you want, my server also sometimes goes down, which is annoying.
