Speaking of IQ's....
You obviously didn't notice that the last posting was from February 2010 ?!
Necroposting a 19 month old thread isn't the brightest thing to do.

So reading literature from 18th century England and discussing it is seen as crap just because it's old? I don't know about your logic...

Invalid analogy -- Comparing this thread to literature from 18th century England is about as far a stretch as one can make.

One of the main reasons for not necroposting is evident here.

The person to whom you are responding has not been active on the list for quite some time.

You are speaking to no one.

Although, maybe you were just talking to yourself

That wouldn't require a post though would it? ;)

I don't know whats more confusing, you posting in the post to inform me of this situation which I'd imagine other people have input that still surf the boards, or you think Im talking to myself when two others have replied to what I posted, I'm perplexed right now :/

Because there is no WAY someone else could be surfing the forums and have an opinion of the topic being discussed /roll eyes, maybe if I was quoting someone in the post you could call me a fool

IQ is like voltage. If you have a high IQ/voltage and produce a lot of current, then you have power. J/K :)

^ ROTFL :p

Ah, well, it's already resurrected, so ..... :D

trying to introduce a new current (no relations with your voltage :p) of thinking ..... i've heard about autistic peoples that can learn foreign languages or solve mathematic and logic problems better than any "normal" people (also, some research companies hire authistic peoples with specific abilities) ..... also, some of the so-called "genius people" of the past, had autistic characteristics (or, at least, the light form called Aspergers Syndrome) .....

Following the actual tests, some of these peoples can be classified between 150 and 200, in the current IQ scale ..... ..... so, following this line of thinking, you can also say that IQ can be an indication of a possible mental disease, huh ? :p :D

(playing devil's advocate ..... Hm, no, maybe just playing devil, here :p )

As HIMNL9 said, it's already ressurected ...

My personal opinion, IQ number is complete cr*p.

First of all, there are seven types of intelligences (or intelligence attributes, if you will).
One measured by tests is only one, logical intelligence. You've got 6 others to think about.

Using only that one to judge a person is as retarded as judging a computer's speed by it's case color.

But OK, focusing solely on logical IQ number, that number attained is also cr*p.
You've got 6.5 billion different personalities on this planet.
Using one particular method of testing on all of them will give you false results. You can't use one test on every one, since every one is unique and thinks differently.

Also, why even test a person for a fictive number representing his brains? Makes no sense. If anything, all 7 intelligences are to be tested and plotted to see how the person has it's points assigned.

You know how in RPG games, you have points which you can assign to different attributed to your character?
Seems like in real life, it's the same thing, people with exeptionally high logical IQ have a lot of trouble forming friendships and relationship because they spent all on logic and none on personality. At least, this is my personal observation.
Oh I ran out of coffee. :p

Heh, then we need to find something better than IQ, perhaps ..... what about AQ ?

It's an old idea, never translated in practic form ..... measure a global AQ (Ability Quotient), with some different theorical and practical tests ..... for considerate all the possible fields of ability ..... literary, communication, math, logic, analysis, intuition, empathy, manual ability, coordination, extrapolation, and so on ..... it will become a very huge set of tests, but it probably will give you some better indications, at the end, about the personal characteristics, than only IQ numbers ;)

First of all I don't understand all this hate for necroposts in this community, if one person can add new issues to an old thread and make it "actual" again, I don't see the problem...

I'm agree... a kind of theory of multiple intelligences http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_multiple_intelligences a better evaluation than one number :D

Uhm, i personally don't "hate" necroposting, it's only not too much helpful when it's done just for add "wonderful" , "amazing" , "me too" , or other similar comments, or for reply to a question posed a year or more ago, or similars ;)

For the counterpart, i think also the forum rules admit "necroposting" (better call it "post resurrection" ..... or, maybe, "dead post evocation" ? ..... naah, sounds too diabolic :p :D) when is done for add new informations, or for resume an argument that is still actual or interesting with a new discussion (and i suppose also admins agree with that :D)

Maybe someone can overreact a bit, about this, but that's all :p ;)

EDIT: more than "multiple intelligence", i think we must focus on "multiple abilities", a better definition that may involve more fields ..... is difficult, but let me try to give an (incomplete and limited) example .....

Imagine a clock repairman (old clocks, mechanical ones) ..... one with "interpretative intelligence" can probably understand how it work and where it's broken just looking at it, but without the ability to manage items and a good hand-eye-mind coordination, no ways for dismantle, repair and reassemble it .....

One more step, add imagination and extrapolation capacity, and you can plan and develope some modifications and add-ons to the clock (as example, add day/month/year indication, charge reserve, moon phase indicator, or whatever other you want ;))

Another more step, add organizative, managerial and imaginative abilities, and you can probably also open your own clock factory, and start to sell them :D

Another more step, add financial and comunicative abilities, and you can become the first clock maker on the market .....

Add innovative abilities, and your production diversify, and you start to sell also electronic clocks .....

And so on ;) :D

It's a limited example, i know, but a more complete one will probably become WAAAAAAY too long :p :D

Agreed :) for this reason that I wrote:

If and only if ;)

Well now. It seems that there is some new life in an old thread after all.
A pretty intelligent way of resurrecting it I might add.

IQ testing only reveals how you think, not how intelligent you think.
I used to be great at parallel thinking. (A bit rusty now) Whenever I was "tested" for IQ testing the answers were easily arrived at (for me) and my results were always in the high 140's to 150's. I don't feel that I qualify for the "title" that is usually assigned to someone with that IQ score. But that's only my opinion.
From an online source : Roughly 68% of the population has an IQ between 85 and 115. The "normal" range, or range between -2 and +2 standard deviations from the mean, is between 70 and 130, and contains about 95% of the population. A score below 70 may indicate mental retardation, and a score above 130 may indicate intellectual giftedness.

But I can't talk about IQs without remembering a good joke that goes along those lines.
For space reasons I will ask you to read the question & think about it for a moment BEFORE reading the answer. It will make it funnier for you.
Question : Do you think that an IQ of 144 is high ?
Would you still think so if I told you it was for 12 LPF members ?

No offense intended, I really would like to have a calmed and mature discusion. If you're gona reply to insult, please stay away. It's perfectly ok if you believe it's bullshit, just explain me why.

It's not that I've made a religion out of the IQ, but I find the way people call BS on it interesting.

Well, I have to chime in on this one.

I.Q. is indeed over used and over prescribed as a base test, to "measure" a person based on a set prescribed questions.
I.Q. test was used originally in WWII as a way of filtering out soldiers for conscription. It is a quick and dirty way of making a comparative snapshot measurement of a persons ability to answer a set of questions correctly.

There are however many problems with the test.
a) It is a snapshot test and therefor results are often unable to be re-produced.
b) Culturally biased/ Ethnocentric ( In regards to the questions traditionally asked)
c) Doesn't test problem solving but emphasizes on rote information. (At least traditionally)
Still used in some countries like ROK (Republic of Korea)
d) Tests a superficial understanding of material and is not interpretive.
(What color is an apple?) (apple on paper is green, however correct answer is red.)

..... (What color is an apple?) .....

ROTFLMAO

Sorry, but this remembered me an old discussion i had with one of my professors, when i was young (ages ago :p :D)

A perfect example of a totally incomplete question, that is ..... and i used that same example ..... the only possible answer to that specific question is "depend" .

What color is an apple ? ..... depend ..... at what point of the growing ? ..... at start, immature, mature, too mature, rotten ? ..... and what specie of apple ? (there are a lot of species of apples, you know ;)) ..... and also, a real apple, or a "fake" apple ? (if it's a plastic or wax reproduction of an apple, it can be whatever color you want to make it, including "stars and strips", huh ? ..... :D)

(yes, i was evily also when i was at school ..... but don't be preoccupied, growing up, i'm becomed a bit worse :p :D)
