Ok.. I'm sure many of you have encountered times when something shocking happens, girls in the general vicinity would scream, and scream like crazy. It seems it doesn't even take much to trigger this reaction, simply talking about an exciting event, girls can go wild screaming over it.

The typical scene I encounter all the time is when a girl sees something bad about to happen or currently happening and merely stands there and scream, doesn't warn the person, doesn't help the person, just screams...

What's with these people? This a genetic thing or what? lol

Probably alot of it is the way girls are just brought up vs guys and the way its portrayed in the media.

These responses are "hard-wired" into our hunter-gatherer brains
It is called the acoustic startle response

Women are small, have less musculature, and less upper body strength
Women need help to fight off attackers, rapists, and kidnappers
That help comes in the form of her mate and other males in the tribe
When she is frightened she screams to draw the attention of the males in the group

Men are larger, have more musculature, and more upper body strength
Mens' job is to fight

The need for this has pretty much been negated with the invention of firearms and martial arts
However, the acoustic startle response is still active in the brain
When a male hears a woman's or a child's scream, they are compelled to stop and take notice

All or most of our basic instincts go back to the cave man
time and they not only include the female scream...

The pitch difference in our voices is more based in the role each sex had in the hunter/gatherer society.
The startle response evolved with those differences in place (or possibly alongside them)

I hear the distinct high pitch shriek as i read this thread. A few hours into Dave's big bang and i can only surmise the only B---h screaming is that of one prepubescent male seeking attention. Prison guards and ITK crowd typically refer to b-tch, b--ch boy, or lady-boy and pie hole, prison candy, tosser, next bi-ch...

Anyone care to address why some girls are screamers during other activities, when there is no startle response involved? :shhh: :p

The gravity thing is easy.... natural tendency for girls to show off the bosoms, and curves :D
