Who's Familiar With The EMS?

If electromagnetic waves are generated from charges & currents, how come they can't be converted back into a charge?

"Charging" for example a battery, would be pretty damn difficult in mid air. -lol.

You'd basically need BOTH a transmitter & receiver to do this. A source (transmitter) to give the electromagnetic wave & receiver to convert the electromagnetic waves back into a charge.

In what application would this be beneficial?

RC Vehicles!

If this can't be done, why? It's just like "Analog To Digital Converter" where bits are converted to a digital signal & sent via electromagnetic wave, ...which then are converted back into digital at the decoder on the receiver, & wallah, spins the servo's.

I see that as energy.

Thoughts?

and here I thought this was a thread about the courier.

What EMS are you talking about? Energy management system? Electromagnetic suspension? Ethyl methanesulfonate? Electromagnetic spectrum?

It looks like the closest thing we have to a wireless charge is those dumb things you set your iphone on. My toothbrush operates on the same principal. Pretty sure the down fall of this is limited distance.

There's no way to amplify this?

Additional: There's no way of taking advantage of any of the waves throughout the atmosphere? I'm sure you've heard it, "if you could see the whole spectrum, waves would be everywhere."

I suppose interference would be an issue. Hm, I almost wonder if there's a way though....

Lol & no, I'm not talking about solar power

I think you mean EMP, electro magnetic pulse.

It can be amplified, problem is at the power level you'd need, it'd induce currents in other electronics and cause all kinds of chaos.

Wireless charging is actually pretty common these days.. The new nokia lumia phones support it, for example. I have no doubt that in a few decades you won't normally encounter wires at all.

Sure there are ways to tap into the radiation's energy, but its difficult to capture.

Consider a point source for some E&M wave. The magnitude energy of the wave received decreases as a function of ~4/(3r^3) in all directions, at some distance r.

Consider a 100,000W UHF broadcast station. We tend to have to put up something the size of a garden rake on our roof to get oscillations of the same frequency to induce something on the order of a micro-Volts on the wire. Tis not much.

That's why lasers are so useful. Their energy can be directed in one direction at a time!
